Guest showtime Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) recently received this coin in my change and i have been told to try this forum to see if anybody could help me with any info about itit is a 10p coin dated 1992 Edited June 29, 2009 by showtime Quote
Chris Perkins Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 It's very worn, although not worn enough for the milling to dissapear, so that makes it a mint error. But because it's so worn it's just worth a few quid. Quote
Guest showtime Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 its not actually that worn, i just couldnt get a decent picture of the edge with the coin face showing at the same timei would say its no more worn than any other 10p coincheer mate, thanks for your thoughts, wasnt sure if it was a fake or an error Quote
Chris Perkins Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Trust me, it's very worn, like all early 90s 10p's are by now. Actually I think there are 2 different edges for that date, rounded and square. That looks to be a square type that's missed it's millings. Quote
Guest showtime Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 lol i do suppose you would know more than methanks again mate Quote
scott Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 well wouldn't value depend on the alignments of the dots, but yea there are errors as odd as that around, i have a thin planchet 1975 5p lol Quote

You only have to hold some different examples in your hand, edge on, to see the disparity. Quote
Guest showtime Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 should i just punt it on ebay for a £1? Quote

Correct, worth 10p- But surely there's more than the edge that's off - the obverse looks mushy and indistinct; the reverse little better. Quote

mrbadexample Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Same for these 5ps do you think? I'll be honest, I don't see how this would be achieved in a tumble dryer. Quote

Coins get stuck in the fins of commercial clothes dryers and are not removed for weeks or months until the machine is serviced. The continual tumbling against the steel drum beats the snot out of a coin and causes the rims to roll and fold inwards. Not sure about yours though, looks like something a bit more than just tumbling around. They almost look like capped die strikes but the poor quality of the metal means they're probably not. Quote

I have a 2014 non milled 5 pence coin...I’ve researched from all angles and no one can shed any light on it, so up to yet it is the one and only.....which I really don’t think this is the case!!! Has anyone on here seen or heard of anything of this sort?? Quote
