it is a 10p coin dated 1992

It's very worn, although not worn enough for the milling to dissapear, so that makes it a mint error. But because it's so worn it's just worth a few quid.

its not actually that worn, i just couldnt get a decent picture of the edge with the coin face showing at the same time

i would say its no more worn than any other 10p coin

cheer mate, thanks for your thoughts, wasnt sure if it was a fake or an error

Trust me, it's very worn, like all early 90s 10p's are by now.

Actually I think there are 2 different edges for that date, rounded and square. That looks to be a square type that's missed it's millings.

lol i do suppose you would know more than me

thanks again mate

well wouldn't value depend on the alignments of the dots, but yea there are errors as odd as that around, i have a thin planchet 1975 5p lol

There's certainly a significant width difference between 1992 10p's. You only have to hold some different examples in your hand, edge on, to see the disparity.

Looks rolled to me, people either hammer the edges down gently for a long time or do something like put it in a tumble dryer.

Correct, worth 10p-

But surely there's more than the edge that's off - the obverse looks mushy and indistinct; the reverse little better.

That comes from the rolling too, usually in a dryer.

Same for these 5ps do you think?

I'll be honest, I don't see how this would be achieved in a tumble dryer.

Coins get stuck in the fins of commercial clothes dryers and are not removed for weeks or months until the machine is serviced. The continual tumbling against the steel drum beats the snot out of a coin and causes the rims to roll and fold inwards.

Not sure about yours though, looks like something a bit more than just tumbling around. They almost look like capped die strikes but the poor quality of the metal means they're probably not.

Thats just wear in your pocket Jon.

To be fair I don't carry any more than that and they've been in there a while. ;)

I have a 2014 non milled 5 pence coin...I’ve researched from all angles and no one can shed any light on it, so up to yet it is the one and only.....which I really don’t think this is the case!!! Has anyone on here seen or heard of anything of this sort??
