lmao247 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 My great grandfather left me a large collection of world coins. This one has got me totally stumped, anyone know what it is? Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I would imagine that it is another piece of Lauer's toy money.Clive. Quote
scottishmoney Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 The leaf device on the reverse doesn't correspond with anything Lauer I have seen though. The obverse does though. Quote
scottishmoney Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Perhaps engraved as a present?I doubt it, it is counterpunched with the leaf device, notice the indentations around the edge of the leaves, and the flattened detail on QV's portrait. Quote
lmao247 Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 call me ignorant but what is 'Lauer'? Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Lauer is a German company that have made jetons/tokens/toy money from about 1800-1920 and now make front grills for cars! Quote

I have never seen one like it before, i've been searching the net for days trying to find what it is. Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I would imagine so but the leaf design baffles me... Quote

Chingford Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 The only book I have seen that solely covers these types of coins is'Toy Coins' by David J de Sola Rogers, published by Galata in 1990.I have looked through but can't see your coin, although the Obv is very similar in design to the Prince of Wales models by Hawkins and Magnay, this seemsto be the only recorded coin with the legend 'Victoria queen of Great Britian' that is dated.Spielmarke use the same legend but are undated.John Quote
Guest bryanadams Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 can anyone help me, in which year the "DOUBLE EAGLE" Gold coins introdused at United States of America ?================================bryan adams,================================Everyone knows the value of the US Dollar is going down - the only thing that keeps its value is metals - In the early 1900's and ounce of Gold bought a real nice suit - Gold then was around $20 an ounce. Today that same Ounce of Gold Will buy a real nice suit but that $20 would maybe get you a nice tie.To fight off inflation everyone should be purchasing Gold and Silver in some form - Gold Coins - Silver Coins or bullion / barsThe best way to start is to start out with a simple program called Silver Snowball - You can visit my site, join and start your collection today. www.silversnowball.com/27 Quote
Hussulo Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I don't know much about silversnowball, but I do like those ice cream snowballs Adams the ice's sells on a Sunday night. Quote
