Chris H Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I have started putting some of my better coins into capsules, I had limited sizes and tries one for size. It was a bit tight, and now the coin is stuck inside. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get the coin back out without doing any damage to the coin? I would prefer not breaking the capsule just incase it does any damage to the coin. I know this may be the last resort, but I put it to the experts to offer any alternatives. Quote
Red Riley Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 You could try putting it in hot water which would make the plastic more malleable and shouldn't damage the coin. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Or an oven at a low heat? Might be a bit extreme.I always find that a bloody sharp whack on a hard but slightly padded surface does the trick. Quote
Gary D Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I've not tried this but the engineer in me made me think that if you put it in the freezer the coin may contract more than the plastic so making the coin loose and fall out. Quote
scottishmoney Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I have done that with hammered pennies, and remember having to use clean cotton towels and toothpicks to get them out. Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I just use capsules that are slightly bigger! Otherwise, depending on what coin, I have used a paper clip and a pair of thin stamp tweezers but, as Chris says, a hard thwack usually does the trick.Clive. Quote
