I have about 40. I've been through them all and can tell no differences between the R, C or H's!

And I don't think any of them would make MS65. Sir Winston's manly forehead on the eyebrow and his slightly sagging cheek around the mouth area are all bashed about. Not always obvously when you look at first. And there are usually scratchs in the large fields on either side of Her Maj.

Of the 5 that I could lay my hands on immediately, 4 are thick C and one thin.

That's interesting Rod, any chance an image so that I can see the difference. As I said earlier I dont know which type mine is and I'd like to have one of each.

That's interesting Rod, any chance an image so that I can see the difference. As I said earlier I dont know which type mine is and I'd like to have one of each.

Thick left, thin right. The gap between the jaws is wider on the thin type and cruder in appearance. The H is thinner and appears in higher relief than the thick one.

It's quite obvious when you see the two verities side by side. The bottom of the C does look thinner.

I think your right Colin.

On the thick type the border "teeth" have a small gap in between the semicircle and the edge. The "teeth" also appear to be more pointed.

I have highlighted these point on picture in red.

I noticed that too when I was joining the pictures. It appears that the diameter of the thin C is marginally smaller than the that of the thick C. The thin is 28.46mm diameter whereas the rest are all 28.60-28.70. As the rims appear to be the same width, wherever the rims are added in the manufacturing process the diameter has been set slightly smaller. As I have a sample size of 1, I obviously can't extrapolate this to say this is a definitive point and common to all thin C's.
