1926 George V Shilling

Hi guys....i need two bits of info,regarding the above coin,if someone would be so kind.Firstly,is this a second or third issue Shilling ?.

I tried selling this particular on Ebay,recently,and it didn't attract any bidders.Wasn't too sure what price to start the auction off at,so i decided to begin it at a mere £9.99,and let the bidders decide it's value.This really is a stunning UNC example,even though my photography skills may not suggest this.

I honestly thought that i'd have no problems selling it,especially since the auction starting price was so low...or what i'd class as low,anyway.

Did i really overprice such an outstanding coin ?.I just can't understand why it didn't sell.

Sorry, but it's realy bad photo. According to this photo I can't see the condition of surface. All I see that lion's head as not so bad as it could be.

Moreover the postal price made it 30-50% more expensive.

The picture isn't good enough and the impression given rightly or wrongly is that the coin has been polished - horribly so. You can't tell for certain whether it is the modified effigy or the second issue because you can't see the BM on the truncation which makes an id simple. The ME has BM to the right, the previous issue has BM more central. It is illustrated in Spink's tome on p.471. If I had to guess I would say it is the ME type because the parting in the hair is more pronounced with a longer line, but I wouldn't gamble on it being so. Pictures like this usually hide a multitude of problems, so "if in doubt, leave it out".

Another way of identifying the type is to look at the I of DEI. I to gap older type I to bead ME. Looks to be ME. Starting at £9.99 sounds a bit optimistic.

I expect to have plently of spare time,tomorrow,so i'll have some further attempts at producing better quality pics of this coin.I'll also try again,to determine which issue it is (thanks for the pointers regarding that).

Could the polished appearence,just be down to the reflection of the camera flash,reflecting off of the coin ?.I have tried grabbing some decent pics without the flash,and had no joy whatsoever (way too dark)....although i admit that i could brighten them up a tad,via a paint program (didn't really want to resort to that,though).

Having browsed through two different coin books,the lowest value for either issue in an uncirculated state that i could find,was £40.Due to that,i thought that a starting price of £9.99,would be okay.After reading the above comments,the pic was at least partly to blame,for this coin not getting any bids.

I use a scanner rather than a camera, there's no flash and you can scan to a very high detail.

Yes, scanning is fine for most things. I got a new camera the other day which seems to do the trick pretty well. Don't use a flash and always rest the camera on a mini tripod because it's not really possible to hold it perfectly still when taking such a close up image.

I still have my old camera, which is great (and only 3.2 mega pixels) but has a broken battery door.

It's an ME. One of those things I learnt after years of looking for 1926 ME pennies as a kid. The earlier image is a little more angular than the modified version.
