Chris Perkins Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Tomgoodheart will probably want to see this. It's holed but not that awful all things considered. It has a crown mint mark. I haven't worked out which Spink number it is yet! Quote

Chris Perkins Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 Thanks. I'll wait and see if TomGoodheart wants it. If not, I'll send it to my hammered friend. I also have a quite nice 1624 shilling. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Hi Chris. Thanks for thinking of me! Sadly this type isn't one of the rarities I'm still looking for but nice enough! I'm afraid it's value to me would be as a 'pocket piece' (to show people who ask what a Chas I shilling looks like) so I expect you'd get more from your friend. That said, feel free to PM or email me with a price if you like. Date 1635-1636 by the way. Shame it can't tell us where it's been for the last 370 odd years! Quote
Chris Perkins Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 £20 and it's yours. Or is that too much? I don't really know about pricing hammered, and how badly the hole affects things. Quote
scottishmoney Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Pricing this with a hole. It is a nicer piece without it, and still nice with it. The hole is small and not on the portrait either. Surprising many of these Charles I coins were so pierced, it is conjectured that they may have been so pierced to wear on a chain or necklace by Royalists supporters, especially during the era of the Roundheads etc. when you could not be obviously a Royal supporter. TomGoodheart Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I think on ebay it'd make £20 - £30 so £20 is a fair price. But to me as an 'extra' I'd be looking to pay quite a bit less because it's just be a whimsical purchase to pass it on to a friend. I've been looking for a shilling as a gift for him for a few quid so the hole is neither here nor there to me. But then I was only thinking of spending up to £10! As I said, you'd likely get more from your friend.. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 I got it for £10, so I'll send it to my friend at coinsforsale.co.uk. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I'm sure he'll find a home for it and a bit of profit. But thanks for thinking of me Chris!. Quote
