Chris Perkins Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 It's only illegal to melt down current coins (so I heard, basically to allow people to melt down pre 47 silver) so theoretically you could sell your bronze old pennies to the scrap man! Quote
krasnaya_vityaz Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Gees, now I can tell my wife that the 6000 predecimals that I have in 20 kilogram bags are worth something, and maybe we can have dinner on them. Surely they are worth more than the £85 or so in face value. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Have you got a bag or 2 of 1966 halfpennies? Quote
krasnaya_vityaz Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Have you got a bag or 2 of 1966 halfpennies? I have lots of 1966's, but most are circulated though. Quote
mint_mark Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4766897.stm"Please don't melt all the coins" say the Royal Mint Quote
Geordie582 Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 No! They want to leave the meltdown to the chancellor! Quote
Chris Perkins Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 No doubt the Royal Mint are taking in the bronze coins as quickly as possible, selling the metal and replacing them with copper plated steel examples as we speak! Quote
Geordie582 Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Then a magnet on a string will help us oldies with dropped change! Quote
