planz666 Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Hello Folks,I have been using Spinks 2005 to help identify and catalogue my collection. It seems straightforward and easy to understand, however,I have a few questions about some of the abbreviations used.In particular on page 397 SP3822.Does anyone know what the following mean?1822-inv.A's legend1825-D/U in DEI1826 R/E in GRATIAI have looked for an explanation elsewhere in the book and found nothing.Any clues please? Thanks,Ted Quote
Emperor Oli Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Ok, the first one will be that the legend is struck with the Vs as upside-down, or inverted, As. Both the second and third are letters struck over others, with the D being struck over a U, and a R struck over an E. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Like it! Buy the Spink Book, and ask your questions here!Do Spink have a forum? If so, it's not as good as this one. Quote
planz666 Posted December 17, 2005 Author Posted December 17, 2005 Thanks for the reply Emperor Oli,very helpful.Chris,I thought that Spinks was ''the bible'' however, having looked elsewhere on this site it seems that there might be an alternative book for 2006 CheersTed Quote

Jamesred Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 My 2005 book is mostly sellotape now..... but the wife just bought me 2006 from Santa, and she was also robbed when she bought me 2 sovereigns, 1902 & 1903 she paid £340 for them (joint bank account... she never learns!!) so i had a look for them and found them (as i said she never learns)..... Guess what will be getting returned on the 28th?? Thing that gets me most is that i have bought hundreds of pounds worth from this guy..... no more, he obviously didnt know my wife.He must have seen her coming!!JR Quote
Peter Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 If they were on his sales list OK.But if your wife had just enquired and was quoted £340.....he has just ripped her off.Who is the dealer? Quote
Jamesred Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Dealer is an old boy who has been collecting for years i got to know him through a friend who deals in gold. This guy is based in the Scottish Borders, dont think he has a shop or anything but i will let you know what happens when i see him next. Quote
