Queen Mary coin?

Thank you to everyone who helped with the Queen Anne coin back in July. I have found some more coins in my brother’s things. Google tells me this one is Queen Mary. It is 2.5 cm diameter. Any information much appreciated. He found it in a rubbish pile about 20 years ago, along with what look like Dutch coins and old pennies, and a really worn heavy bronze coin.

It looks Scottish, but my books are at home and I'm not, so someone else has to chip in with a reference number/value.

That’s a super-crude counterfeit, surely? Would a Scottish coin have English titles on it, I can’t say that I’d know?

Maybe, I don't know. That's why I said perhas someone else has the books to check for references and values. I see few Scottish coins apart from the early pennies, or the much more common milled bits.

I felt like I recognised it from something I had around 20 years ago, so been digging around my images. Here’s one I used to have, which was pewter (or not silver at least).
 

They are identical and, given the similarity of ‘strike,’ and the fact mine looks like a genuine field-find, I’d say they were both contemporary cast counterfeits (cast, rather than hammered from dies).

Thank you! Contemporary as in with the real coin? 
someone had dumped the contents of their car ashtray/ other rubbish out of their window and brother was cleaning it up.

Contemporary with the times, I’d say, as in intended to be spent.

I’m basing the above solely on the fact my own example looks like it has been in the ground for some years. However, that’s not to say someone didn’t beat my piece up to make it look like an old coin? This has been known, but I suspect it would not have been worth it to beat any modern copy up this much, in the hope of making a few quid?

Value? I wouldn’t have expected to get more than a tenner for my coin when it sold, so I likely didn’t even get that much. People do collect genuine (😊) counterfeits, so you may get lucky on eBay, but don’t expect too much.

Thank you. I just weighed it don’t know why I didn’t think of that before. It wouldn’t be a convincing fake as weighs 5.62g. So assuming it’s a newer reproduction from a museum shop or something. Other coins in the heap seem fine. But not interesting.

I'm pretty confident these are both modern replicas. Yours, Stuart, looks like someone 'aged' it to try and pass it off as genuine (vs just contemporary).

You could very well be right, I’m open to any suggestions on this one…I really don’t know, truth be told! 🙂
