Does anyone have any idea what’s happened to this 10p coin. Got it back from a local shop with some other change and has peaked my interest

Someone has started drilling it with a hole drill and given up. Or maybe it was being used as a backstop when they were drilling something else.

Rather than an attempt at drilling, (the tip of the drill being pointed would remove material in the center first) Not around the edge. This looks like an attempt at using a hole punch.

There are hole drills without the centre drills - like these:

A hole punch would leave different damage and would certainly have deformed the reverse.
