Tadzik Posted Friday at 10:49 PM Posted Friday at 10:49 PM Cześć wszystkim, chronione przed dostępem do zdjęć makro monety Victoria Young Head Shield Back Half Sovereign z 1844 r., niedawno nabyłem. Quote
Citizen H Posted yesterday at 01:15 PM Posted yesterday at 01:15 PM translation, Russian to English, 👍 Hi everyone, I've recently acquired a Victoria Young Head Shield Back Half Sovereign from 1844 and protected it from macro photography access. While examining the reverse, I noticed what seems to be a very distinct Repunched Date (RPD). The doubling/repunching is particularly visible on the last two digits ("44"). On the last digit, there is a very clear structure inside the triangle of the number 4, as well as an extended alignment of the stems to the right and down. I've attached two high-resolution macro photos (files from standard 1000017922.jpg to 1000017923.jpg) showing the details. I would really appreciate any input, expert opinions, or catalog references regarding this type of feature. Is this a known variety of the 1844 Shield Half Sovereign, and how rare is it? Thanks in advance for your help! Quote

Coys55 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I can’t comment on the actual coin, but maybe this could be moved to a more appropriate place than the publications forum? Quote
Paddy Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I am also not much into gold coinage, so I can add no expertise. I would say the RPD does not look so obvious to me, but others may have another view. Repairs and adjustments to the dies were very common in smaller denomination Victorian coins, so it doesn't seem unlikely on the Sovereigns. Quote
Tadzik Posted 24 minutes ago Author Posted 24 minutes ago That's why I posted this post because I read that these years had errors. It's half a sovereign Quote
