blakeyboy Posted July 22 Posted July 22 What a loss. Bonkers and so funny. A trailblazer, and what a way to go out- just two weeks after such a concert! Considered almost godlike when I was young, in the West Midlands- really flew the flag for that area. I helped my mate do Terry 'Geezer' Butler's garden in the 70's, and we used to play about in the kit room at Terry's house- my mate Matthew on Bill Ward's kit, and would mess about on a Minimoog. Terry came home one day and announced the new album, 'Never Say Die', and we listened to the acetates of the album, each disc one side each, on the standard 70's rocker hifi- turntable, Mackintosh amp, and big JBL speakers, in Terry's lounge. What an evening. It's still like it didn't really happen.... 2 Quote
copper123 Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Must be honest I never really liked ozzy and was pleased when he deserted the uk for his endless USA tours , I feel much more sorry for poor old Phil collins who now is in a really bad way, a typical englishman who never upset anyone and entertained everyone While everyone likes a bit of "crazy", Phil made a career out of being the good guy and was a consummate musician Ozzy admitted himself he was very sorry for the baggage he left behind , Philips wives or some of them at least have been blood sucking vampires maybe they should have been Ozzy's exes if the truth be told. 1 Quote
Peckris 2 Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Phil Collins is very underrated as a musician - he not only helped write several Genesis songs, he was also a consummate arranger, something very evident from Nursery Cryme onwards which was the album after he joined. 1 Quote
blakeyboy Posted August 15 Author Posted August 15 He was so ubiquitous in the '80s that people started not liking his success. Doing both Live Aid concerts by jumping on Concorde didn't help etc... I still play Brand X albums, and yes his Genesis contributions were great- I got into his era of Genesis far earlier than the Gabriel stuff.. Trick of the Tail is excellent and Collins is superb on it. "after he was awarded the Galactic Institute's Prize for Extreme Cleverness he got lynched by a rampaging mob of respectable physicists who had finally realised that the one thing they really couldn't stand was a smartass".... 1 1 Quote
