JLS Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 The service tomorrow is unsurprisingly cancelled for obvious reasons. But does any member here know whether there will be a distribution of coin ? I assume the coins have already been minted so distribution (by post ?) would seem sensible. Quote
Sword Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 I assume the likely option is to post them with a message from the Queen saying that she deeply regrets she is unable to distribute the coins this year. The monarch used to send such messages when the recipients of awards cannot be present at the ceremonies at Buckingham Palace. 2 Quote
Paddy Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Nice medal! Any background history to go with it? Quote
Sword Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 That medal is not mine. I got an OBE first type instead and it was awarded to the industrialist James Carter Gray. The auction were selling his items and there was a silver salver too. Churchill recommended him for the award and sent him a signed letter of congratulations. The letter was sold at a specialist auction and went for a four figure sum. 1 Quote
Sword Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 As expected, the Maundy coins were posted to the recipients by Royal Mail. The coins were blessed at the Chapel Royal before posting and the recipients would also be welcome at next year's service. They each received the following letter from the Queen. 5 Quote
