Hello folks,

ever so sorry for barging in here unannounced but me and my husband are totally stumped by this 2p we acquired this evening at auction.

If anyone would be so kind to shed any light on the coin, authenticity or any information, we would be very grateful. Many thanks.

That is machined in. A cavity made in the 2p with the 1/2p inserted, and you can see the milling marks around the inserted 1/2p.

No need to apologise, no one gets announced! But agree with VS, an exercise in milling - the ½p inserted into a recess in the 2p.

Someone playing. The same reason explains the numerous double sided pennies around, which are done by machining a recess just inside the rim and dropping in another obverse or reverse.
