FKPhil Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 A few months back I learned my wife’s aunty had a gold guinea coin. Family legend says it was in her family since new (1748). [Quite incredible really because her family has always been skint.] I mentioned she must fetch it over next time she visits so I can have a look at it. Christmas morning I get the coin as a present from her!! J She doesn’t have any kids of her own. I haven’t started researching it yet but my first gold coin. Merry Xmas to me. Quote
Ukstu Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 (edited) I think they had the Royal coats of Arms in the centre and not A guinea . Think its a brass coin weight. http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=140&searchlot=1256&searchtype=2 Edited December 25, 2017 by Ukstu Quote

As other have said its the thought that counts. Coin weights are quite collectable. I've seen some absolute stunners of Charles 1st done by Nicholas Briot apparently. Quote
