last trip out with the detector gave me a cut half of Henry III Bury,  and a nice piece of hack gold

A nice half penny. Could you tell me what 'hack' gold is? Its not a term I've heard of before

gold thats been hacked off a bigger lump, not weighed it yet but it was probably used for payment etc, its high carot, you can see the cuts made to trim it to a certain weight or bits cut off to make a weight

Do have the hack gold checked through the PAS/treasure procedure. A mate and I found some a couple of years ago, still going through the process but analysis has shown a 99% probability that it is of Bronze Age date, much earlier than we had thought.

There was more gold in this country than people realised till those darn romans started sending the stuff back to rome
