Gaz T Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Completely shot half penny sized coin. Looks like uncrowned Charles I with the Irish harp on rev. Thanks for any help with i.d. Quote
bagerap Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 From memory I'm sure that there is a Dublin halfpenny token with Shakespeare's head obverse and Irish harp reverse, and this could be it. Quote
Gaz T Posted December 9, 2017 Author Posted December 9, 2017 Thanks bagerap. I will have a search. Quote
Gaz T Posted December 9, 2017 Author Posted December 9, 2017 Still looking, Can't find this design yet. found a few Shakespeare penny tokens but not with the big harp on rev. Quote
Rob Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 There's nothing to match in D&H, but Davis Dublin 17 onward (p.214-222), mostly have a crowned harp. There is a number (dozens) of legend varieties/number of pearls to crown/laurel leaf pointings which are rendered irrelevant by the condition of the object above. The dates are approx. 1800-1822. Richard2 Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 What you have is an evasion halfpenny, like this Quote
Gaz T Posted December 10, 2017 Author Posted December 10, 2017 Thanks so much Richard. Its really good to see what the token would have looked like. Didn't think it would be from Wales. Quote
