zookeeperz Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Sorry my thoughts still stand . I believe unless there are several reverse types for this date it is not what it appears to be. It just screams I am trying to look like the genuine coin but I am lacking in detail . Look at the lions head for a start in the top shield. The lettering as I mentioned is all modern sharp edged unlike the softer more rounded finish on the standard coins. Many of the letters are completely different fonts. blobs and smudges where detailed parts should be. designs inside the shields. The more I look the more I am convinced it's a jeckel. But What I know you could write on the back of a postage stamp. However I am used to dealing with replica and fake coins. Quote
Gaz T Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) Zookeeperz I think you are right, there is something wrong with this coin. I don't know if milled coins were double struck ? or if old coins that had been in circulation of the correct weight were collected and re stamped in the mint ? looking at my coin under the legend there is the same design but different shaped letters and as Zookeeperz said the lion at the top of the coin has another lion underneath and slightly to the right. Plus looking to the left part of the reverse the shield with the two leopards, they look double struck but the leopards underneath look different, a much finer design but perfect compared to the ones stamped above. Rob Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) The one on the left is from the same reverse die as the coin above, not sure about the obverse though it looks a pretty good match. There is more than one punch in use for a given character and the design is entered by hand as seen by the legend alignment. I can't see a problem with it. Edited December 12, 2017 by Rob 1 Quote
