Sylvester Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 Ah you see you've just got to know where to look Here knock yourself out... (Cgheck out Charles II, James II and George III)http://www.bottles.freeserve.co.uk/fsp.html(not really in competition with Chris cos this guy concentrates on the pre George III stuff, specialising mostly in early hammered, such as Saxon, Norman and upto Richard III the periods after are covered in depth upto George III but not as extensively and then it kind of fizzles out [usually lower grade stuff], nothing beyond Victoria). Emperor Oli Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 Brilliant! Not the selection of the previous one (for maundy at least) but the pictures and variety make up for it - very nice find Quote
Sylvester Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 Where do you think i got that 1693 sixpence from? And where am i getting my king John penny from? Quote
Sylvester Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 And doesn't Maundy money still have the Gillick portrait of Her Majesty? Quote
custard1966 Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 I hope this one hasn't been posted before, but I can't work out whether the vendor is genuinely ignorant or what...http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=3923750476They're also rather 'optimistic' with some of their other items. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 I saw that, its typical of many ebay sellers. The only time when people like that grade their coins right is when they describe them as "very good" because that is all they usually are. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 I would really love to buy that old, rare antique coin! Look! It has a charm too! Quote

Emperor Oli Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 Marginally better but I think £3 is a bit steep with all those spots on it! Quote
Coppers Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 Agreed. I doubt that it will sell even at its current price. Quote
Coppers Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 A collector friend of mine emailed me today to take a look at this remarkable proof sixpence now up for sale on ebay. Curiously, the seller has a 100 percent positive feedback. 1879 Proof Sixpence Quote
Sylvester Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 The feedback may not be genuine... it's always worth checking if the users that are leaving feedback are all newbies that have been created by the seller just to give him/herself a good feedback rating. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 The feedback looks genuine, the seller probably is too. Looks like another case of a seller than knows nothing about coins. Quote
Geordie582 Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 As a regular purchaser on e-bay, I differ from most of the opinions expressed about grading. Anyone who accepts anothers grading is asking for trouble! I am different from most other collectors in that I prefer a circulated coin before an uncirculated specimen kept in a bank for the last few hundred years. Handling a coin that could have been held by Boudicca or Charles I gives me the 'buzz'. But then I can't afford the 'pretty' versions anyway! Quote
Emperor Oli Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I trust dealer's grading (like Lockdale's) and one user, bidkid, grades rather well too and puts giant scans on which make it easier to grade. Quote

Emperor Oli Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Isn't it Britannia in the chariot? Mr. Chard seems to think it isn't... Quote
william Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Yes, I also thought thatit was Britannia in the Chariot, not Boudicea. I mean, why have a Britannia coin, if Britannia's not on it?? Quote
Emperor Oli Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 If only everyone could get that price! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 If only.......I am getting a bit fed up with many in-experianced collectors and even in some cases dealers who haven't got a clue with what they are talking about. (Not you Chris)!!!!! Quote

(Not you Chris)!!!!! They are the bane of the coin collecting scene! By the way HPJ, that Low tide is too expensive, you should hang on, you could probably even wait 3 years and pick one up cheaper. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 I am not sure why he has put it at that price. He told me that he paid £175 for it and told me that I could have it for £210. I don't quite believe he paid £175 for it though, next time I see him I will tell him that just becuase I am young dosen't mean that I am stupid! Quote
