bhx7 Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Just wondering if anyone has come across one of these before. It was produced to celebrate the Eastern Trough Area Project in the North Sea. I bought it today for less than its silver value just intrigued. It has finger prints on unfortunately but still in nice condition. Any thoughts Regards Brian Quote
Peter Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Pobjoy novelty so all it will be worth is bullion....the other 499 in the back of a drawer somewhere? Quote
bhx7 Posted June 15, 2016 Author Posted June 15, 2016 Think as a piece of social industrial history it is worth more to me than bullion value. It was obviously given to the people involved in the sinking of the pipes and erecting the rigs. I do see what you mean about the Pobjoy Mint, but these were obviously made to order for ETAP, not sold as a novelty or gimmick. Quote
Nutsaboutcoins Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Not seen one before, but if only 500 were struck I doubt anyone who got their hands dirty got one, just a lot of suits patting each other on the back, for a job well done (by a lot of other people). Would a gentle wash with acetone remove the finger prints or have they started toning the piece? Ian.. Quote
bhx7 Posted June 15, 2016 Author Posted June 15, 2016 Hi Ian, I managed to get a bit off with acetone but think someone has already tried with something a little less gentle. There are a few slight scratches to the top of the reverse. You can't see them all the time but they do show in the picture above. I paid £9 so haven't lost anything. Brian Quote
