hami Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 novice seeking advice, again! have bought at seperate times and from different sources recently 2 young vic head halfpennies of 1841. on examining with X10 loop each has an identical crack across the obverse froom E in DEI across head bands and ending just left of the 1 in date. The match is almost exact. it does not appear on side of rim nor on reverse. Explanations ??? if any. Quote
Peter Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 HamiI will check my 1841 tonight. It was in fact my most expensive coin which I bought in the early 70's for 50p It will be a die crack. Quote
hami Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 thanks for responses, but if the die is cracked the impression should be raised ?? Quote
Rob Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 An incuse die crack is usually called a scratch, unless there was a piece of metal stuck to the die which also left an impression. Quote
