I have an a few uncirculated puddle duck 50ps. The one that was left on the side has toning on it now and the ones in kept in packets are still normal colour.

Could it just be toning due to atmospheric conditions of storage? Coins can tone differently if kept in different places, no?

Tried to post a coupe of tracks - came up with the error - FORBIDDEN! lol. I guess Jazz isn't for everyone. lol.

.....also - I am very unsure how to grade these coins from the 16th century. I know hot to grade coins from the 19th and 20th to G/VG/F/VF/EF etc.. but how do you grade these? Same scale of wear and tear etc? It helps if you know what a mint one looks like, lol.

Who bought that? I can't see it as anything but a standard penny in 'Good/Very Good' condition... unless I'm missing something. For £250 he can have all my Fine Victoria veiled head pennies. - free delivery too.... I'll deliver them by hand.

They do look a bit perfect... not my field though - I'd love a Cnut penny... but I don't want to pay hundreds of pounds for a real one or £2.00 for a copy either.... I would love to pay £2.00 for a mint like real one like the ones on e-bay... but I think it sounds a bit too goo to be true. Still, what do I know?

16th Century? idk

Hi there. I have a hammered silver penny which I think s one of the Edwards. I have a few hammered coins of various grades, kings and denominations, but this one has been mistruck and then struck again over the top off centre. What is this error called? A double strike? A Mistrike? I can't imagine that they are that rare seeing how they were made then. The coin is in pretty good condition apart from being difficult to read as it has been struck twice over the same coin on both sides. Hmm... the pics didn't come out as good as I hoped - I will try to photo the coin again later, but here it is for the moment. I quite like it... even though it looks a bit of a mess. The cross of the longcross is broken in the middle and the centre of the cross is way off centre, like a crucifix and it has double the sets of dots on it... a mess, but interesting. You may have to zoom in to see it properly - or as I said - I will try to photo it again if needs be. Thoughts appreciated - Thank you.

Sorry for my ignorance - but what does this F26 mean? From the pic above and following the conversation in the thread - is it something to do with letter spacings and proximity to the outer rim of the coin? Thanks.

Hi there, I think this is a jetton from the Papal States... it has the winged lion on it (st Mark?)... It looks similar to a Nurenburg jetton.but I know nothing about them - any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks for your replies. The 186i can go in my collection next to the 1861 anyway. It is still an item of interest for me. I am aware that my 2 pronged farthing is only worth about £15.00 but it sits nicely in my album next to the 3 pronged on as an example - I'll keep an eye out for the 1840 one. :-)

Hi, I have an 1861 half penny which has a capitol I instead of a 1, 186I - the coin is probably VG condition as it is too worn to be fine but is an OK coin. Googling it I found some pics of an 186i mint error but no info. Is it common? I'll post a pic up when I get chance to photo it. Thanks. It is an interesting coin anyway - I also have a 2 pronged 1839 farthing and a normal one for comparison.

OK - He says it might be a gaming token - maybe I was wrong in thinking it was a sixpence... Is he implying it 'might' be gold then or something then if it isn't a gaming token? I am confused and have probably given the listing too much of my time already, lol. Let's move on.

lol -maybe I got it wrong... looks like a well worn sixpence... I can't see why anyone would fake a well worn £10 sixpence, lol.

My Rotographic price list gives it as £10.00 in fine condition.... although it might be 'nearly fine' (being very generous)... it has a lot of ugly pitting on it. I couldn't grade it any better than VG at best imo. He has put it up for £20.00. lol - maybe some mug will buy it.

hmm - I am still unsure about my coin... i am going to send it off to be checked I think. Good news is, the 'fake' roman coin I got with it isn't fake according to the local archeological trust... It is a VF Phillip 1st Antonius - I just assumed it was fake due the price and how perfect it looked... :- You win some and loose some... I've lost a few, so good win on that one! lol. The fact that the roman coin is decent makes me think this might be too. I'll have to send it off when I get around to it. If it is real it lists at about £700. Anyone know what it might be worth it is is just a museum copy?

I can't see how he can list it as VF... and what are all those wavy marks on it? I have one that is fne...maybe better - but it has a load of coin art on it... none of it any good, lol. I have it on my stall for about £7.00..... maybe I'll e-bay it, lol.

Thanks again - I might take it to the Archaeology society in town, they have a coin guy there. It does look a bit like that one, but some of the writing is missing on mine if it is the same. It doesn't have wrl written on it or anything, lol, and it feels nice, cold and heavy. I bought it from a guy at our coin fair recently - he has a lot of nice coins, but mainly 16th to 20th century British and world coins. He doesn't know much about Roman coins but I don't think it is a fake. I will investigate further though.

seeing as it's value would be about a pound normally (?) if it had both sides, wouldn't it now be worth 50p? lol I'd pay 50p for it... I could maybe use it in a magic trick or something.

Do we know the mint numbers for the Potter 50ps yet? How would one find out?

I have a few old spanish coins. I think I have one of these..I am struggling to read the date though. I had some 8 Maravedis coins, later than this one though. One was in quite nice condition..F/VF maybe. I sold that one a while back. They are nice coins these old spanish ones. I have some pirate cobs which are interesting coins too.

Don't say the left one, lol. Yeah, if he said 'high grade' he can argue he didn't give an actual coin grade I suppose. Although I would take high grade to be VF or better.. I do not know what that really means. I am a little unsure about grading older coins from 1600s to 1700s. Is there more leeway with the amount of wear due to age?
