  1. Thanks Rob for backing me up on the Queen Anne.....there has also been another lot listed with 2 x 1822 crowns, these look dodgy as well. Would anyone agree?
  2. Here is an idea...maybe not a good one. ...but it may help those of us who buy from ebay from getting ripped off. Why don,t you start a link on here with members reporting fake coins being sold on ebay, on auction, with pictures if possible. Then all us members can bombard the seller with questions about the authenticity of the coin. These enquiries show up on their listing and may make the unsuspecting buyer wary about buying it. Then one of us many members, like a syndicate, can outbid whoever is buying it, then cancel the sale because you realised it was a fake. The seller will have no other option than to cancel the sale as he has already had numerous enquiries stating it was fake. Cannot see him running to ebay complaining. It certainly would clean up ebay. As I said...just an idea.
  3. Says all you who are putting in a phone bid!! Haha!! What about the other lot of 6 coins with what looks like a fake 1713 Queen Anne crown? Maybe as bent as that sea trout they are selling as well? Thanks guys for your words of wisdom and for getting the frasers link on here. I am kinda hopeless on computers!!
  4. The coin in question is at Frasers auction market, Dingwall this Friday. Just had another look at their site and there also appears to be a 1713 Queen Anne crown fake listed amongst other coins. As i said, sorry about the wee pics but there are bigger pics on the Frasers website.
  5. Thanks for your quick response Dave. Sorry about the small pictures, i copied them from the market thats selling it, then posted them on here. The market is on this Friday 28th July. Maybe some other members will give me their opinion as well before then. Yes, it did look a bit bright as you said David, thats why i was after information.
  6. Sorry about the 1703 1st picture. I could not get rid off it in the listing for some reason. I am going to a small market this Friday and this Spanish 8 Reales is for sale. I,ve read there are a few fakes of these coins. Is it real and what sort of price would it be worth? Thanks again.
  7. Thanks Nick.
  8. Does anyone know where i can get information on the fake gothic florin years that are in circulation please? Thank you.
  9. Thank you. Its not much to look at but i,ve always wondered what it was. Much appreciated.
  10. The coin is about the size and weight of a sixpence.
  11. Thank you PWA. Its a slabbed and graded 1886 Young Victoria Sixpence which i purchased a couple of years ago. I don,t usually go for these sort of coins as i cannot actually fit them in my coin trays. Just wanted to know what sort of grade it was before i put it on sale. Always grateful for your help. Regards. Kevin
  12. Yes that was what omega_2 attitude was when i told him the shilling was fake....had the nerve to call me a bleedin conman!! As for those 2 hammered coins Stuart.....gosh do i need glasses!! Thanks for pointing these out to me. Learning every day!!
  13. Thanks Rob and Ukstu. Couldn't find any faults Rob but i better be safe than sorry and get a 2nd opinion from you. New to collecting hammered coins this last year and this has been the most expensive coin to date and didn't want it to be an expensive mistake. I,ve about a dozen other hammered coins i possibly naively bought over the last year on ebay, thinking everyone was as honest as myself. Would it be possible for you to give them a quick once over if i put a group picture of them on at some point? Sorry about only having one side of the coin showing. I only can seem to list one picture per post due to it being over 501kb. Not sure what to do to address this issue.
  14. Hi again guys. Hope you don,t mind, but as mentioned before i am quite new to collecting hammered coins. This is the latest one i purchased which is a Charles 1st halfcrown. It weighs 15g and width is 33mm. It looks and feels the part but i would like a 2nd opinion on it please as i would hate it to be another fake as it was quite expensive. Thanks in advance. Kevin
  15. Thanks Ukstu. That guys listing and info gave me a laugh!! He has actually changed his mind in the listing and now claims they were found in a tin in a garden shed!! I do like the hammered coins but i could not tell if they are fake or not. By the description would i be right in thinking they are fakes?
  16. Hi. Has anyone recently seen the amount of fake or copy kew gardens are on sale on ebay just now? People are paying top dollar for these coins which can be picked up at any car boot sale for £1. Its against ebay policy to sell fakes so why is the place riddled with them amongst others!! Only yesterday i seen one being sold at auction, obvious fake, but wait for it...in some homemade slab!! Sitting at £81 when i seen it plus i noticed there had been 8 enquiries about it (obviously people telling him it was fake). Well, i seen red and fired in a bid of £110 to make sure i won the coin. I then never paid for it and politely informed the seller it was a fake and would like to cancel the sale. He did reluctantly cancel it saying he never had a clue it was fake...yeah right!! Maybe this is the way to beat the scammers if we could get more people on board.
  17. Left feedback for omega_2 on Tuesday, it goes.... ....Fake seller. Sold a Charles 1st shilling copy. Avoid. Ebay refunded.Would you believe ebay have now removed the negative feedback? Totally agree with those comments about their site. Awful!!
  18. Its terrible a huge company like ebay do not have a couple of coin experts to sort these fraudsters out. After all they must be raking in millions on coins alone. Here's another case finishing tonight (Thursday 10.10pm) of a kew gardens 50p being sold at auction . Standing at £63 just now. No mention of it being a copy and still on sale even though i reported it. Its a minefield out there!!
  19. Hi. Can anyone tell me what grade a slabbed coin with a grading of unc-80 is? Thanks.
  20. Hi again. Latest on ebay. I telephoned ebay this morning. Nice girl who i dealt with and had a bit of savvy about her. When i pointed out to her where the word copy had been partly erased, and pointed her to Dorchester coins site (thanks Tom) she agreed with me that it was a fake and reversed the ruling, giving me a full refund, as the description never mentioned copy or fake. Although she did say that their policy is usully not to go by photographic evidence. I,ve left the seller omega2 nice feedback for the fake. Thanks for all your help. Regards. Kevin
  21. Good morning guys. Well, eventually received the ruling from ebay this morning. Would you believe they ruled in favour of the seller? With a small footnote stating that the seller described the item accurately. Case closed. I am on holiday just now but they have not heard the last of this. More later.
  22. Lmao at the beach pebble, you gave me a chuckle!!
