  1. The Trident would be my choice. Always wanted one, never did get one. Can't have car and bike and I need the car. I can't carry many trees on a bike.
  2. Well, yes, I used to always take two cameras, one for colour one for monochrome. or different lens depending on what I was shooting. These days it is a lot less frantic, I have a Pentax DSLR. I take things that usually are stillish. Plants butterflies, and bigger animals. the bike days are gone at least for now. I still have all my gear from up to 35 plus years ago, It all works. Geoff.
  3. I have 4 farthings which I know are Irish, but that is as far as I am sure. There were sole as Charles 11 Richmond which they are not, I am having trouble with the other pics Geoff
  4. Well, the tests today are so simple that any 10 year old can do it. There are three levels of licence the first level is a simple test which neeeds almost no study and the result is given at the time and you can take it again straight away. Max of 10 watts which is enough for most uses. I never use the 100 watts I am allowed, with the aerials there is no need. The network of repeaters is good too. I also was on 27mhz., but not with any burners, although a friend of mine had one and I used that sometimes. In 1978 I wnet to the TT with a mate and that was the start of my collection. We only had a week there, the following year we went for two weeks. That was the last time. I shot 20 rolls of film that year in two weeks.
  5. Thanks, Peter. This is the only forum that I have been in with so much activity that is relevany for me. Most of the others are US based. I am not interested in non GB so I am wasting my time there. You may have twigged that my collecting interest in Isle of Man was sparked when I went there for the TT in 1978. I bought my first coin there and that started me off. I still follow superbikes TT and Swindon Speedway which was my local team. At the time I sold my collection I did not regret it, but it was not long before I did. In 2005 the 1733 proof penny sold for £140 todat to get another it would be upwards of £750. But I am getting a nice collection now so I am happy. I do have some GB too, pennies mainly and some silver 3d. Geoff.
  6. Accumulator, I like your pennies, I have looked at some of the. Interesting to see the varieties. I have some early 20thC ones, I bought a quantity at an auction some weeks back, nothing much but I did find an early copper one, not sure what it is it's quite worn. I also found what I think is a token, some of the details are readable. I must take a picture and post it, someone might know what it is. Geoff.
  7. Thanks for the welcome, nice to be here and be welcomed like I have been. Geoff.
  8. It used to be that you had to renew every year, at a cost of £15 and it would lapse if you did not. Now it is only necessary to renew every 5 years, but it does not lapse if you do not renew.
  9. That's not too bad, after all it was £15 per year. But ok, I can understand that you are not interested. I keep saying that I am going to sell some of my gear, but I don't get around to it.
  10. Garrett thanks for the welcome. I don't have cricket on my list, but I do like to watch as much as I can. My local club has several good teams in the leagues. I do support England, but enough said right now. Geoff.
  11. Well, yes I bet it did cause TVI. The M call had been around for a long time. Today the licence is free if you renew on line, and lasts for life. You just have to renew every 5 years. Geoff.
  12. Ok, well my call is m5eay which is part of my e mail. I have been licenced since 1999. with m1., then m5 the following year when I did the morse. Six months later the morse requirement was removed. I am a member of Trowbridge radio club. I don't get on much these days, I mainly used the radio in the car, but when I bought a new one I was unable to put it in the car so I am restricted to home use or the handheld. Have you let your licence lapse? Geoff.
  13. The link doesn't work for me is this one by James Mackay published 1978 any use? It is fine as far as it goes, but does not cover the varieties I have seen this book at silly prices, I think I paid about £7 for it. The coin News Yearbook lists the main issues too.
  14. Mals - Isle of Man. try this one, I copied and pasted so should work Geoff.
  15. https://sites.google.com.site/malsiom/home-1 is good for all coins of IOM., There is not a ref for the varieties although someone I know is working on one. I have about 5 different plus forgeries. Spinks book is a bit out of date, I agree needs a new one. The main book for IOM is called Isle of Man Coins and Tokens and the only place I found to get it on the island, was £30 but covers all including up to 2011. The 1733 varieties listed are however I am reliably informed not aall correct. Danny, hope you got a case, well worth it. I have some of my coins on my web site too.
  16. Nice, but it is 1733 not 1755. There are a lot of varieties of this issue.
  17. I am currently using Coinmanage, I find it quite good although it took me some time to get used to it. I find the search option to be poor, and the totals very difficult to get all, rather than each set of coins. That would be the most useful for me. I see that this has not been discussed for a while, but just thought I might comment
  18. OK, well, ABC coins has several with a VF priced at £20. About right. David also has 1813 1/2d. Geoff.
  19. Yes, the 1813 coins were also cartwheel. The 1798 penny is a much more difficult to find especially in better grade, I have an EF held for me. Lot of money, but I prefer to go for the best grade I can. I have several 1/2d's of both 1798 and 1813. Geoff.
  20. Danny, I wondered if you would be here. Yes Christmas was good. Did you see the cases in Lidi? £12.99 with 5 different inserts. They had a load in the one I went in last week, I bought one and at that price very good. Geoff,
  21. No, I'd better not reply.
  22. I worked for the same company for 33 years. I decided when I was 58 I had had enough, but could not afford at the time to retire. However I did retire two years later when I reached 60. Sold my house and bought down, paid off the morthahe and all other debts, I did struggle a bit for the next five years, could not have a holiday or a new car, but once I received the state pension I was well off. No mortgage new car I can do most of what I want to do. Gold coins are out of my reach though, Geoff.
  23. It is not so much viruses I have problems with or could have, it is the e mails supposedly from Yahoo or Apple or BT etc never open then. If you hover the cursor over th name it is from it shows the e mail address, invariably it is not genuine Most get chucked into the spam box before downloading but the ones that do I block and bounce. Geoff.
