  1. Yes Roderick (or roddie) was there, pretty much every dealer was. Not a fan of Richard bishops insistence of announcing the bidders names. David guest did buy an awful lot at the sale but having spoke with him after the sale, only one piece was for stock the rest was on behalf of his clients. This was the case for most of us on the day. I ended up with 3 pieces - 2 for clients and one for stock.
  2. The three wise men were steve hill , Ian and Richard from Stanley gibbons/Baldwins
  3. Yesterday was an extremely draining auction, considering there was only a few hundred lots it sure dragged on., I attended the sale with the intention of hopefully buying 8 or 9 lots but came away with just 2. I wasn't surprised to see the BIG coins fetching high figures but what did really shock me was the amount the normal everyday coins were selling for. I looked at each lot before the sale and a large proportion of the milled silver section was to say the least poor yet people seemed to be willing to bid excessively over the odds to obtain these coins.
  4. Looks like we all underestimated this one ...... Its just sold for £46,000 Hammer
  5. I think that was for sale at about £40,000
  6. Not too sure i would guess by the end of the week. I agree its very late in the day to release the catalogue.
  7. No but i know the young auctioneer there, and he sent me the pictures when it was consigned a few months back. Its gave me just enough time to re mortgage the house haha
  8. It was bought in "by an old lady who said its has been passed down from generation to generation." Its think it will exceed £30,000 hammer
  9. Here are better pictures of the coins obverse
  10. Thank you
  11. DO CGS HAVE A SEPERATE SCALE FOR PROOFS OF DO THE CLASS THE AS UNC 82, ETC
  12. Hi John, Sounds very interesting, you can get a free and impartial online valuation here >>>>> http://www.mhcoins.co.uk/free-valuation/
  13. Its a reproduction of the UNA and lion but on a large scale, which i think are in either plated gold or plated silver. Sadly of no great value but looks like it could make for a good coaster
  14. Anyone else going on Friday to the York Coin Fair ?
  15. Not wishing to offend any user of or the owners of CGS but i simply cant understand why people are using them for grading .... I know this has been said again and again but there isnt a HUGE market yet for slabbed coins in the Uk and those few that do want graded coins (that i know of anyway) insist on PCGS or NGC only. Yes CGS may be cheaper and possibly more accurate but if your looking to maximise the coins potential value pay the litte extra and send them abroad.
  16. very rare coin i'd give you a £1000 for it
  17. We would be more than happy to buy this from you. Please feel free to contact us regarding a valuation

  19. & an example of one of the Charles I half crowns from the hoard. This being a Group III, Type3a1 mm Tun half crown (S.2773; N2209)
  20. We finally started to photograph the Hoard today. Here is an example of one of the Cahrles I Shillings. Identified by two fellow members on here as Group E Sharp e2/2 mm Crown Shilling
  21. I'd say its a £2,000 - £2,500 coin to the right buyer. In todays market condition is everything and although its a rare date, given the marks etc the coin has ilimited appeal, perhaps as an affordable gap filler. AMR have just sold a nice one at £5000
  22. I'll be undertaking the mammoth task of Photographing the entire hoard this weekend and i'll post some results up once they are done

Which macro lens do you use? I have a Nikon DSLR but it would appear that there are several macro lenses available from 40mm all the way up. We use at present a Tamron 90 mm Macro lens
