  1. P.S Posting also just to agree with a previous post and not post content would be spam too. Sorry if I'm getting on my high horse but there's people doing it on other forums too
  2. Mmm she probably can't translate roman numerals
  3. Well yes there are worth something but it depends in what condition they are in. The most valuable will be the florins I think. As I said, we need grades.
  4. Look again, the majority are from the 19th and 20th centuries
  5. I'm going to rally to the cause and stand up for enamelled coins! The majority of them are enamelled tastefully and artistically and further highlight the work of the engraver who had produced such a masterpiece. The second one in especially is nice - look at the silver poking through on it; truly superb. yes, what a waste... The brooch ones are no waste at all. It's not as if they are hugely valuable now, so what's your point? They look like contemporary mountings so it would be like us mounting a £5 Coronation anniversary coin. The mounted coins were normal to them as the £5 is normal to us. I also don't like brooched ones but I wouldn't call them a waste: I just don't see the point in wearing coins.
  6. Darn i've just bought some off him but anyway I'm looking for BU full lustre, not uncirculated.
  7. How to hijack a topic Step One:...... Hmmm I'm a bit skeptical about the 1924 one. That graze by George's moustache and the top of the shield on the reverse do not bode well for it. 1936 - big mark on cheek prevents BU imho The 934 one is quite a beauty!
  8. Like our obverse except legend reads: GIBRALTAR ELIZABETH II Reverse has a three-towered castle with a key hanging from it and latin in a banner underneath.
  9. And this is the coin you wanted for your birthday and you can't even remember the variety - terrible! Anyway, CC's pictures are high quality and should look good in Collectors' Coins - quite a coup, Chris.
  10. I received a Gibraltan pound coin in my change today and was quite pleased with it but the I noticed the edge milling> It is not, as with normal pound coin, just lots of vertical lines, but lots of vertical lines separated by three solid pieces, with no milling. Is this a rarity or am I being silly?
  11. Yes, it looks like gold metal but I dare not scrape away at it!
  12. Emperor Oli Posted on May 24 2004, 04:43 PM Half Penny Jon Posted on May 24 2004, 06:39 PM No, you miss the point. I am not a farthing expert, you are not a halfpenny expert - to gain the handle "expert" one needs to study their field for decades. "Above your station" means that it is a little upstarted of you.
  13. No, I reckon it's just dirt in the legend. Quite heavy wear on the cheek and shoulder bit though (the name escapes me). I'd put it at AVF
  14. Now this I will go to get! Goes to cabinet Five minutes later.... Right, Geoff. It is George IV and the obverse legend is "Georgius IV D:G . BRITT . REX F.D". On the reverse, it has the words around the edge "Crowned July 19 1821" and in the centre it reads "May his reign be long and his people happy"
  15. I haven't seen any for sale plus I just googled it and got no results so it may be rare!
  16. End of August = 31st of August
  17. i posted a huge picture in crappy quality a while ago but it may have disappeared. Basically, it's the reverse of a St. George & the Dragon sovereign and the obverse of a normal Edward VII coin but with the legend saying "Edward VII Coronation Coin 1911" or something like that. I can't be bothered opening my cabinet to look!
  18. I think Sylvester and I were cast in the same mould! (Or struck with the same die?!)
  19. Yes, to something a little above your station, one might say.
  20. No, don't try and be clever. I said it was a mule 1911 Edward VII Coronation coin.
  21. You would need to register first but it's not worth it really as it sounds worn.
  22. Go to "My Controls", then "Edit profile info" and it's the first field at the top. You must have changed it before because it doesn't default to "Forum God"
  23. Mine's milk no sugar most days but black sometimes
