  1. Paid that much for an EF example!
  2. This info is a godsend! Thanks all.
  3. "Is that a roll of coins in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me " "Err... coins. Don't get your fingerprints on them they're Brilliant Uncirculated!!"
  4. Well something a tad less diverse than Coin News and with some interesting articles for light reading would interest me. Anything else is a plus (e.g something like picture grading for types of coins, coins for sale, articles on variations, interesting pictures, archived coin info, extracts from old coin books, interesting guides etc.)
  5. Why so many? If minor changes in design don't count then we have only one reverse and eight distinct obverses. It's really a case of what turns you on, and I'm afraid hyper-varieties just don't do it for me, I'd rather broaden my horizons and go collect roubles or something. If you have 500 varieties of penny, then that's fine if it's what you want. 120 does actually include a fair few varieties if you work it out. I'm sorry if I sounded a bit dismissive, I didn't mean to be, but for me a collection that I couldn't make interesting to a non-numismatist (and few would be enthralled by varieties of the 'pointing to gap or tooth' type) just wouldn't do. I'm with you there Red. I would like the 1897 high tide, and the 1903 open 3, but after that, the ones I REALLY want are impossible : 1922 with 1927 reverse 1933 1952 1954 !! I guess with buns, some people make a whole career out of the things, but I can only get excited by the more obvious variations. I can get them all for you for £15 quid from Dodgy Dave in the pub I think the book/leaflet would be an important part of my and any other collector's library. Especially to those out there who collect books.
  6. lol! But seriously I'd like to see something similar about British coins!
  7. That is a good read! These e-only editions make me more and more attracted to the idea of a good e-only British magazine (with subs and paypal donations of course!) Would Chris be able to do something like this or is he too busy? Because I would certainly sign up and donate even on my limited budget if some regulars here wrote an article or two...
  8. Nah, he hasn't.
  9. I think the dealer probably knew how to identify them too!
  10. Maybe they are doing the same thing Britain did in 1971? Maybe we should convert to the Euro to make the decimals nice and rare...
  11. Are sovereigns really "coins" as they were largely minted as bullion for foreign exchange and were regularly put into the melting pot and recoined. Modern ones I think should be but the older ones should be preserved rather than melted.
  12. I think no coin magazine will be successful as a singularity. I think Coin News are not making too much profit and are being backed by the sales of things from CoinCraft and their yearbook as well. If Predecimal launched one it would have to be small scale and not expected to make much profit.
  13. Passing on our numismatic heritage to some aspiring decimal collector by buying a packet of Quavers! Good deed of the day done!
  14. I'm afraid so. See, his dad's 1st in line, so I guess he is 2nd in line??, and his kid will be 3rd. Or maybe I've got it wrong and must kneel at the block with my neck bared. What if for some reason it never makes it to the throne Who would be next in line?
  15. Buy coins for the right price and always get the seller to have them weighed on big purchases.
  16. Where can I have coins melted?
  17. I had one... but I spent it
  18. Gordon Bennett !!! ~ for that price I'd want a die number under the date Yes, but it could the narrow or open cat hair lol! For the price I'd want the cat as well. The most I'd pay for that coin is 200 quid let alone 900!
  19. If you were to spend it would they be legally obliged to accept it?
  20. A respectable coin dealer would send it or at least send an apology/letter of explanation with more than one line.
  21. Is it worth £600 to avoid a negative feedback?
  22. This what you're looking for Peck?
  23. Vic for short. Will and Kate's first born won't eventually be king/queen will he/she?
  24. I think that if some of the more established regulars here contributed articles now and again I'd be prepared to pay a sub also.
  25. I wouldn't mind a magazine published through email and printed out by the reader or just read online so long as it had interesting articles. There'd be no printing costs at least!
