Maundy Error coins now in hand
azda replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'm assuming these are all very small coins? Which would explain the lack of hair detail. In which case you could fairly confidently grade them all as EF (perhaps even slightly better in one or two cases? Hard to say without the coins in hand). Yes Peck, they are quite small, 2 of them were graded as AUNC by the dealer i bought them from. These are very difficult to photograph, i took most of the pictures with the usb microscope but i'm going to make another attempt today for some better pictures -

Ok as stated a few days back, i bought 4 different Maundy coins and all seem to have errors on, i don't think all are listed for errors and there's a George II Maundy that has a 3 over 0 error, but on the OBV the first E in GEORGE looks to be over something also, i initially thought it was an H, see what you think of them all. Feedback is always welcome, all pix are titled and have left in Hi Res for a good look, so a few posts. I'll do the George II as the first picture post

White chalk / plaster coin mystery?
azda replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Could be porcelain, but as we always say here, a picture paints a thousand words. You got any lol? -
We should have an irritated thread, where no one comes in unless they are prepared to seriously debate, makes sense don't ya think? Get things off your chest when you're peesed off

Prepare for a counter suit as my posts were much longer trying to explain my reasoning lol. We should call Vicky the UN

There was some wear to the convex shield, which brought the reverse at least, down to EF. Still a very nice coin, nonetheless, with considerable lustre. I'm not surprised it fetched £2560k. Take a look at this one for sale at the online coin website for £3950. Still some slight wear on the shield, much more expensive, and in my view, not as nice as the e bay offering. Here's the image for ease of reference ~ hopefully not too small It brought roughly £1000 more than it was worth because of dishonest selling. The coin was EF or nearly so and called A UNC by the seller. The last high grade example I sold was also bought from London Coins. It was graded by them as A UNC and downgraded by me to GEF with all of the flaws mentioned (so I lost money rather than making a £1000 profit by lying). I'm not surprised it brought £2560 either, I'm f***ing gobsmacked!!!! Lol, remember your reply John when the 1869 sold at over 2k, notice your remark, "dishonest selling"and then the other remark "I'm f***ing gobsmacked!!!! " Now if it wasn't dishonest selling, i wouldn't have been trying to make my point in my 15 posts or so last night Anyway, am done now, until another comes along

God be praised that someone (Vicky) is actually seeing my argement in all of this. Thanks Vicky, and Colin, this is what forums are for, good debate, and yes, everyone has and can say their own opinion, as i do and did This is why i like this forum, friendly banter and good debate.

I think His point being is that a cleaned coin virtually halves its value, so His point is that perhaps You've actually paid to much for it. Resale value whenever u Decoder to sell it on would Be minimal if it was a dealer you Sold it to or auctionhouse. I think People are seriously missing the Most valid points here, cleaning is a huge No no, so is overgrading, Whats the Point in buying something overgraded and cleaned if Ure a serious collector

He hasn't Rattled me Colin, i'm trying to point out obvious facts that He manipulates nearly every single coin he has, and the WiIII shilling is just one of those. That coin is dead, no tone, No shine and has the look of a rock, so he's manipulating for profit. I Wish some People would Waken up. I Must remember to sell some of u People the mini, i mean Ferrari i have Sitting here

Ah yes sorry accumulator, Ure id has an s amd S in with a 114 Feedback score, was looking at the wrong coin. Tin helmets Ladies, john has a Gun, bet that was a stressful number John, much respect.

I agree with everything you say John, my only gripe is this huge profit from not just the 1869 but the 1903 HC. Its a hell of a lot of money to lose and not many have that sort os cash lying around (apart from dealers that is) As i keep banging on about is what could amount to fraud, the 1903 was described as UNC, everyman and his dog could see it was nowhere near that grade. You were an ex copper John, am sure you boys have prosecuted for less cash, its his dishonest grading that makes me sick, ok fair enough people do have their own opinions, and we do air them on places like this, for me someone who calls themselves a dealer as he does should be a little more honest in his description, if its rare it will sell, it will find its value, but when you stick an extra grade on a rare coin then your bait is gonna take a bite. Thats what pisses me off, not that he's selling rare cons, but he should be more truthful about the coin and its grading instead of looking at huge fat profits at the expense of other people. I've stated this before, but those poor b*****ds that have maybe pumped some of their savings from retirement funds will be hoping for a profit from these coins in say 5 years or so, what would people say in 5 years if he's actually made a loss in those 5 years because certainly that HC will take quite a few years to come up to the price whoever has purchased the CRISP UNC blah blah blah BS. On that note, i noticed no feedback has been left for that yet or the 1869, but 3 from his Sunday auction has already had feedback left. Again, rip off Britain, bend over and take it in the a**e and keep a stiff upper lip even though you were just stiffed for a grand lol. Anyway, i hope ya all are getting what am saying, even though 95% of you will think am just a raving lunatic, i'm not, i dislike greed and have a passion for coins, simples

Very true Colin, and the 1903 Halfcrown he sold in CRISP UNC (THE FINEST WE'VE EVER SEEN)lol, also various people on the forum have also said the 1869 was EF, but again, everyone elses opinion vary, although Martins usually disagree going up the scale, never down. Curiously enough 3 Halfcrowns he sold on Sunday there he has been left a feedback for, yet nothing yet for the 1903 or 1869 Is this one cleaned Colin? http://cgi.ebay.com/1835-WILLIAM-IV-SHILLING-RARE-PRACTICALLY-UNC-/230545913401?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item35ad9b7639
