  1. Scott & Peckris, Cheers for your valuable knowledge Will keep plundering through them, there does seem to be quiet a lot of Austrailian coins amongst them thanks again fella's
  2. Here we have a coin, silver ( in colour) with the date of 1901. The coin in size i would say is just under a British 10 pence piece approx. On the front i can just make out what looks to be a ladies face, surrounded by stars, underneath is dated 1901 On the reare i think its written around the coin United States of America, i can see the word CENT, in the middle of the rear seems to be a letter V surrounded by a wreath of some sort? Could someone clear this up for me please and as normal i would like to know if there is any value to this coin and what grading would you say this is in? cheers all
  3. Here is an Autrailian sixpence from 1942 George VI. The coin on front has a profile of George VI and lettering ends with D: IND:IMP on rear a kangaroo & emu holding a shield with a scroll underneath with the words ADVANCE AUSTRAILIA underneath is the date 1942. I would like to know if possible the following: What grading what be put on this coin? Is there any value to the coin other than face value? cheers
  4. Thanks Peter I will now try to find a gauge so i can measure it. Cheers for your help mate.
  5. Scott, The more i look at the photos the more i think the date is 1938? Ive just taken some more photos that i hope are a bit clearer, please let me know what you think mate.. cheers Sorry couldnt fit another couple on file upload.
  6. Here is a 1916 George V penny which i think the front can be seen slightly on the back? The back of the coin is a lot more shiney than the front...is it possible that the back has in its life been cleaned, if so has this destroyed the coin? Is this a common problem or as im going through these coins am i getting too picky by trying to find "that all elusive coin" While im asking so many questions...I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have taken the the time to answere every question ive posted so far..cheers
  7. Hello, Yet again im calling on the expertise of members of this forum for help Bearing in mind i am only using on-line searches and do not have any official books (yes i now know that i need them) Hopefully my questions regarding coins do not come across too stupid..this is not my game, as you know im not a collector and fortunately have been given two collections. I cannot seem to find a copy of this coin, possibly due to the condition of mine, as you can see its not in good condition at all and i have a feeling the denomination of coin has been worn away. help appreciated cheers all.
  8. Thanks Kena, yeah that way makes sense cheers
  9. Hello peckris, Ive taken another photo as requested and hope that from this you will be able to determine the date if possible mate.? cheers
  10. I would say it is possibly a farthing, Britainniars helmet doesen't protrude the legend on Rev as it would with a Penny, and the Obv looks similar to the penny Obv. Check the diameter, Coppers are the following sizes - 34mm Penny, 28mm Halfpenny and 22mm Farthing.John Thanks Chingford & Rob, I think this was my mistake. I was in the middle of sorting out quite a few pennies and had pennies on the brain when i posted, but again you have cleared things up for me. As you've both mentioned it is a farthing, but im still unclear about the date though? cheers
  11. Cheers Scott & Rob, Thats cleared that coin up for me Thanks for your help
  12. Am i correct in saying that this is a 1797 George III penny? This again, was found amongst my late father-in-laws collection. Are these rare? What sort of grading would you put on this coin. Thanks in advance cheers
  13. Hello all, My late father -in-law (R.I.P) [number of years ago] was an avid stamp collector. We have a number of his collections and were going through some bags the other day. We have found amongst his stamp collections some folders with coins in them. Could someone help identify the date on this Victoria coin, i think its a penny? It looks like 1838 or 1858. Cheers
  14. Thanks very much JOHN. To be honest, the condition mine is in will not make that type of value as you can see from the photos. Unfortuneatly i didnt find the valuable coin It was the date that threw me i thought i had something special. Cheers anyway mate Happy New Year
  15. Cheers John, Yes, the information given by you has helped mate. Thanks for the reply. HAPPY NEW YEAR mate!
  16. Hello Peter, Oh my day is getting worse So the Islamic dating is completely different, i did wonder why the coin over 600 years old was in reasonable condition and still perfectly round? there in lies my ignorance and amateur knoweledge on dating and more-so the coin profession in general . I will eventualy get round to acquiring more information on this coin and its value if any at all but i want to sort out and sell the British coins first....i think....Oh i dunno i will just go with the flow Once again Peter thank you very much for clearing the dating up for me cheers mate!
  17. Cheers, seem to be "not as rare" as i thought that it would be by all accounts, using one site, but another site seems to think that it is rare as tey have a coin up for sale with a picture (same coin) no price but in large letters the word Rare" across it?? So it really was the date of 1321 ........I wonder how many peoples hands that has passed through? thanks again mate
  18. :o Wow David that was quick. Thank you very much and now i will reseach this, you say that this is a "one year issue" cheers mate
  19. This has had a debate going in our house since i found it amongst the cother coins. Please put us all out of our misery. I can say it looks Arabic (from the writing). It is about the size of a new 2 pence piece (British) Would weigh about the same as above also. But thats about all the information i can give at the moment, sorry. This coin has a stamp on it 1321. But is that really the date? Did they really make perfectly round coins in that era? Or is it a token and what i have mistaken for a date is a number mark? Is it real? Where is it from? Hope you PROFESSIONALS on here can help with this one please. cheers Ive put photo's of back and front and also the date, which has been taken with a digi-cam through a glass in order to maganify, hope it is veiwable?
  20. This coin is dated 1881. It is approximately a slight bit smaller than an Old Penny, with its weight being about the same as an Old Penny. Ive searched the russian coins on the sites that i know of and all of them are stating that the period of this coin is Ruble and or Kopek, however none of the ones that they list are even similar to mine? Any help would be as always appreciated. cheers
  21. Cheers SCOTT Im going to do a bit of research on it now and will be able to post some photos with the size again a reconisable coin to give an example but at the moent they have all been put away. cheers again mate!
  22. Thank you Chris, its one that im sure that you and other forum members would have heard of..But cheers, hopefully this will help me get to the bottom of things? This is the homepage: http://maxentius.lamoneta.it/index.htm and this is the page that shows a medal the same / similar to mine? http://maxentius.lamoneta.it/PagineMedaglie/Ritorno_restiNapoleone_6.htm
  23. Firstly, Once again for all the help, time and support given by members of this forum..cheers Could i get the OK from a MOD or owner of this site in order to put a link up so that either or both SCOTTISHISMONEY & PECKRIS could have a look at the site and medal i am quoting from, hopefully this will help in determining the authenticity of the medal that i have??? I didnt want to just put the link up as i feel this would be rude Peckris , the other problem that i have is i was given the coins and medal from my Dad who no longer wants them and i personaly have no interest in them (as such), so what i am trying to do is go through them slowly and try to find out as much information on them but i have come up against a BIG problem, that being.. there is so much information to take in on each particular coin, i genuinly did not know how mcuh information is contained on each coin? I will continue my research but leave the collecting to THE PROFESSIONALS Thanks to all who help ..cheers
  24. Thank you, yes one of the pennies has got a touch of "the green" on it. When you say about the Elizebeth II 1961-63 penny do you mean..1961 /2/3 or just 61 & 63? You see, im still learning the terminology and basics and finding it very hard to say the least. cheers everyone for your advise input and time
  25. I may have solved one part of this? After further extensive researching this is what i have come up with, would like to now know your thoughts on this please? It seems that this is a medal However its is from the Napoleon Era / or representing that era. Ive been able to gather this information: Translation Invalides Napoleon's body: on back: Troops riding a staircase carrying a coffin and are welcomed by France, dressed in mourning, which tends branches of palm and olive. At bottom right, the warship that carried the ashes of Napoleon STE. Helene, left the church of the Invalides. Above, an eagle which is placed the emperor surrounded by rays. Excerpted smooth. Engraver: Montagny Mm 53 - AE gilt Struck in 1845-1860 (COPPER and pointing hand on The Edge) The one that i have been able to veiw where i got this information from, is by looks exactly the same as mine. Now i do not know IF my one is : A) re-strike a fake C) or possibly "real" Unfortunately still no nearer to finding a value though...oh well, will get there in the end? many thanks SCOTTISH for your help mate cheers
