Interesting metal detecting finds

Neither would I - it's a knob off a jar or a drawer etc. -

Looks like a livery button to me. The larger ones can come in two parts and the back often separates. -

Knew I'd seen it somewhere before - nice one Jeilda! -

Interesting but patina and overall manufacture doesn't lead me to believe it's particularly old. I could be completely out but imagine if it was attached to a plastic or composite cap, it then could be used as a basic cap opener. The two bulges would allow for a thumb twist? Perhaps on an engine or a Jerry can type thing? I really don't know matey. -

I don't think the pin is anything really, it looks like it's been folded centrally which would indicate a later period. Also could the marks be from a vice or grip of some sort? When I started detecting there was one particular field from which my friend had found at least 30 fibulas. It was more or less played out by the time I got there and I only found around five in total over some years there. I did, however, have a large collection of things that could have been Roman Brooch pins. Sadly I don't think any of them actually were, but you never know. -

Take it from someone with a lot of experience, that's a piece of tat not worthy of research. No offence though I'm really interested to see your finds ans some of your stuff is excellent! Keep posting! -

Well it could but let's face it, it doesn't! -
Just to point out I was asking for rules to bent in relation to discussing this matter this one time and not for rules to be broken in relation to returning incorrect purchases.

Bad turn of phrase my arse - she's trying her hardest to raise some money by selling her husbands coins. He's dying fast and is trying to communicate the types to her. They have no money whatsoever, dying does tend to curtail your ability to work. She knows nothing about coins so will make mistakes. All I'm saying is just let this one go, this one time will you. It's just a discussion on a forum to you lot, believe me it's upsetting her even more and yes she has noticed as some vicious little twt ebay messaged her to complain and quoted this forum. Know when to call it a day. Do not quote me again in any message, I will not reply regarding this matter.

No worries at all - I don't know what PCCB is, it's not me! Totally agree these things are worth discussing and should be brought to attention in almost all cases. This one time though is truly horrible and hopefully rules can be bent. Just to mention I'm only supplying Lighthouse Everslabs etc to the couple and have not seen the collection nor offered any identification advice.

Seriously! -
Just to defend Shelley. I have been supplying her with slabs etc as she sells off the collection of her partner. It's not my place to say much more but it's about as difficult time as it could possibly be for both of them with limited time remaining so perhaps in this case give her a break.

Hold on found it again, it was the teeth doings. Don't want to be to negative but I was never a great believer in the miniature votive explanations either. Small palm guards or item being worked on fixer in place, late Georgian IMO. -

Take what the PAS say with a massive pinch of salt. I was a detectorist for some years and found some excellent things but the local PAS bloke made very, many mis-ids including having no knowledge of Potins etc. Your piece of lead looks to me to be an electric wire guide or separator home made by perhaps a farmer in the 1930's. Probably as a bodge on a tractor. Change your settings, lead is on the whole a waste of digging time as is iron and you don't really want to be beeping on either. -
Lead George III imprint, but why?
Flash replied to bhx7's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
When I was a detectorist I found a few Victorian versions of this practice. I just assumed it was kids messing around, similar to the mercury plating of threepences. I can't see a lead imprint would be of any use for anything at all? -
Museum Copies ? on Ebay
Flash replied to Bernie's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
All the stuff on that link is Chinese from aliexpress, it's basically everything British that is produced. Abosulutely nothing Museum about them and they cost less than £1.00 per coin. As far as I know ebay policy doesn't allow these items to be listed in any other category other than Coins - Novelty, or something like that, they have to be permanently marked as copies and you need to make sure the title indicates they are copies. The copied Chinese carp that's constantly listed for 0.01p with completely ambiguous wording is bad enough but to get a store like this is just taking the pss. -
Fair point, no no-ones ever mentioned anything I sold or listed and on reflection my comment was a bit grumpy. There still are a few of us that can reliably grade and sell at fair prices though so a generalised sweeping statement can be a bit annoying, perhaps we could add the caveat "except for Flash"

I never could figure out how to do a quote, anyway re: #5628 the repeat custom bit. What a load of blox, don't tar everyone with the same brush. If you don't like ebay then don't bleeding use it, whining about how everyone who sells on ebay is wrong or broken is fcking annoying to those of us who sell on ebay that are generally liked and appreciated by nearly everyone apart from some on this forum.

They're bog standard stylised rubbish which were used for cheap watch fobs, I've seen a few over the years, all brass.

ever just find a coin
Flash replied to Jordan0693's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
As a kid I widdled enough soil away in a wood to reveal what turned out to be a 1920 halfcrown. -
It shows circulation marks which it would not if it had originally been any white metal. I would imagine it's just mercury plated, a common schoolboy experiment and most accumulations of pennies has at least a few "silvered" coins in it. Luv from Dave
