  1. Interestingly, not any more! The Royal Mint are currently striking the first Egyptian coinage for lots of years! Apparently everything from E£50 down (about a fiver!) will be coins!
  2. Fair point, however these have to top the lot! Listing - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Undated-20p-Royal-mi...id=p3286.c0.m14 Sellers Feedback page - http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...eedbackAsSeller Listing - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Undated-20p-coin-Min...id=p3286.c0.m14 Seller Feedback page - http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...eedbackAsSeller I especially love the the first one doesnt even know how much he's 'bid'!
  3. I was referring to the buyer, but I did very nearly message the seller to make that very point! At the time, there were approaching 1000 of these coins on eBay!
  4. Got a penny in Tesco yesterday... will be going in a collection... of shrapnel that goes towards my holiday next year! As a one-off one-year-only design, I think this was a good design, but hey, I'm just a collector!
  5. Annoyingly, I cant find the link or item number now, but there was one lot of 13 updated 20p's... Buy It Now - £10,000,000. A best offer was made of £7,000,000! Oddly this was accepted within seconds! Obviously there is no way to know if the transaction completed or not (I cant remember the sellers name to check the feedback!) but if that was a genuine offer, I'm properly scared at the level of stupidity!
  6. Not to criticise Rob, but three things... - Is there not a small fleck at the top-left of the right-hand upright which could be the end of a serif? - At the bottom-left of the left upright there is (possibly!) a similar fleck?! - And also on the LHS, where the upright and downstroke meet, is this not supposed to be a finer point as on the right? The line of the bottom edge of this also changes direction, which I do not believe is supposed to happen! Would of course need verifying with hand and eye-glass, but might be worth getting someone to have a proper look at it! Q.E.D., apologies for using your image, but felt it might aid my comments!
  7. One did (fairly) recently sell at Dix Noonan Webb in London... 26th Sept 07, Lot 591. Realised £1000 plus premium against an estimate of £400-£500 (http://www.dnw.co.uk/coins/auctionarchive/searchcataloguearchive/itemdetail.lasso?itemid=86784) Thats the only one I've heard of, and it didnt come with any paperwork. I believe it was cased, but unfortunately was unable to view it as Mr Webb had it on his person, and wasn't at Bolton Street when I was viewing!
  8. Keep hold! I've pulled about 40 out of circulation in the last six months... and thats only when I've plenty of cash on me! As the Dark Numismatist says, its an offense to knowingly pass them on. I've also managed to educate some friends and family, so they a either rejecting or picking them out as well.
  9. Surely the fact that there are currently 10 'no date' 20p on eBay, and three with the 1 by MD suggests even to the most simple mind that £233 is slightly over the top!
  10. I'm pretty sure they're not. I've not seen any and it's too late now for them to appear. The pre-Dent 2008 pennies came out fairly early as there's always a need for pennies. Geoff That said, I have now found an old style 2008 £1... Just the Britannia 50p to go!
  11. Are the Britannia 50p and old style £1 being released? I've had all the other 2008s (new and old) for several weeks now, but not seen any since of our lovely Britannia!
