  1. Actually it's probably gonna be easier to get a full set of Gothic Florins in BU than it is to eliminate the Churchill Crown almost entirely from the numismatic collecting pool.
  2. I want to be the Crown crusher. My aim in life is to make the Churchill Crown a rarity, now how many would i have to destroy to get it to that level?
  3. CSPCC Chris' Society for the Protection of Cruelty against Coins... also part of the CCES (Churchill Crown Eradication Squad)
  4. So what about those that actually collect forged coins? (i know some people do... luckily i don't have any, any more)
  5. At the risk of getting shot... Washington Quarter reverse (i just love it!) Morgan Dollar reverse, and $20 liberty type III rev. Can't think of any others from the top of my head.
  6. It's either a halfpenny or a farthing. What's the diameter of the piece?
  7. sorry i couldn't resist!
  8. That about right, also you might whant to state whether it was a hunter, half hunter or open, whether it is stem wound or key wound. Cracks or fissures on the enamelled faces also detract from value. Also like you say, the hallmarks, whether it be London/Birmingham/Sheffield/Chester or some other non descript place. And the date letter... (presuming of course it is a quality piece not just some modern trash) One thing you did forget of course is, does it work? (or is it for spares?)
  9. Well it's one of the better grades i've seen... I'd say GVF at least, wouldn't give it quite EF because those fleur de lis on the reverse are a bit worn. I'd say about £250-£300, selling on Ebay it'd fetch a little more, selling to a dealer you'd get less, usually about £220-240 On Ebay these things go mad, beyond all sense sometimes, and you might even get £350 for it.
  10. Well if that is the case i should imagine sixpences would be double that amount, halfcrowns would be half and a quarter of that figure... But without the ratios one cannot be certain. And i guess that's a more plausible reason for haymarking, as in 'Hay'. Chemical reaction between the hay and the silver oxides and other impurities. I can almost imagine a kind of ammonia type experiment from chemistry.
  11. You had a guinea too? What kinda shape is that in then? £100 sounds like it's a lower grade one to me.
  12. I always wanted a gold florin of Edward III, how many's left in existence about 7? Oh and i'd love a Henry III gold penny! *drool* my childhood dream that coin.
  13. Who said anything about copying the originals? I want the orginals in circ now!!!
  14. Yes i like the Athenian Owls! But you just know they'd modernise it and ruin it. Not fussed on St George, i think that design has been around long enough as it is. Yeah i'd like some shield stuff back (like the Geo V half crowns of the 1910s), and Britannia both sitting variety and Edward VII florrie variety. I'd also like a gothic florin look on one of the coins, and how about Una and the Lion, or the three graces? Or even the enthroned monarch of the original gold sovereigns? Of how about something like one of those original gold florins!!! Now that would be
  15. So do i! I don't want to have to wait 30 odd years to get the coins in circ to the same age our oldest coins are now. Imagine how mundane and boring the euro would be...
  16. I know someone on another forum, he's either from Germany or the Netherlands and he doesn't seem to think that the UK will join at all.
  17. That sounds like it may be a barrel of laughs! Ah Mr Leake, yes Coincraft referenced him quite a bit. I've been wanting to get hold of that book, not just for the coins i just thought it would go well with the book collection.
  18. Oh is he buying them from you? You'd better buy them mintmark... (pssst Chris i'll get my tenner later).
  19. governments you've gotta hate them...
  20. Yeah the low relief and the lack of good striking... makes UNC coins look VF. I'd love to see PCGS's grading of one of those!
  21. Now that's another reason why i won't buy a wreathie, smells like a commem type to me. They were issued by the mint for people to give as presents at Christmas, or the like, and not for circulation, and since i collect primarily circ coins that have seen a bit of history at first hand, then nope i'd give em both a miss. But i remember spending a 1994? £2 coin so you know. But i'd still give it a miss.
  22. Although the pound is still a pound! So the question is did it really end?
  23. Ah some people! You know i never thought much of the Gillick head at first, but the more of it i see the more i appreciate it! It also helps if it's well struck and the Queen doesn't look naked. Once you realise she does have a jacket on, but if you spent most of your early collecting life looking at worn florins you'd never have guessed!
  24. I think i'd save my money for a Gothic Crown! (if i had that kind of cash)
