Minimal value above face. With the high mintage numbers for the 2p, it is not uncommon for minor errors such as bad plating to occur.

Was looking through my coins, and realized that I have all of the reverse types, except the Scottish Lion that was used in 1994 and 1999 (in BU sets only). Anybody have one in decent circulated condition (VF or better). Or, would really like to find a BU Specimen folder of it, if anybody knows any dealers with one.

Will the banks still buy them? I know the large 5p and shillings were demonetized 31-December-1990, and the large 10p and florins were demonetized 30-June-1993.

Unless it is in perfect "mint state" condition, it is only worth £2. Even in "mint state" condition, it is only worth £3-5, definitely not a rare coin by any means.

To begin with, everything from 1947 on is made of copper-nickel. The silver was removed after 1946. Because there is no silver, the value of them drops greatly, unless they are in perfect - "mint" condition. Considering the extremely high mintages, and the availability of them, unless in "mint" condition, they would only be worth a few pence each.

Looking at the newsletter, I just realized that you had the wrong photograph on your website, as the photo was of a 1997 crown, not the 1996 (which is the Queens' 70th Birthday issue) Also, *IF* the 1997 crown (the Wedding Jubilee crown) doesn't sell next weekend at the LCF, let me know, and I will buy it, too. I am working some extra hours, and should have some spare change, provided the wife and teen-age daughter don't spend it all before I see it. I have a couple of €5 notes, that I somehow picked up in transactions over the last year or so, so maybe I can send them to you as part of my payment. They aren't doing me any good sitting here, and would be like free money to use for coins.

1907 pennies are not particularly rare, with over 47 million of them being minted. Seeing as you found it in your garden, and I imagine that it has probably been there for some time, I am sure it has suffered some "environmental damage" (AKA verdigris, corrosion, etc.), I doubt that it would have much value more than a few pence. An interesting find, all the same.

You will all probably laugh at me, but I would have to chose this pattern decimal penny. Being that I am not from the UK, I have the fortunate pleasure of not finding the modern decimal coins as boring and mundane as you do, just as you probably see some interest in the state quarter programs, which I find as dull as a plastic knife.

1902 farthing, in UNC (uncirculated, the way it looked the day it came off the press) would be worth about £9-12. In FINE condition (used, but in good shape) it would be worth about 25p. Dug up from the ground, (probably has some issues with verdigris AKA copper-oxidation) it would be worth maybe a couple pence to a newer collector. 1946 penny doesn't fetch nearly as much. In UNC, worth £6, anything less would only be worth a few pence, as they are quite common.

The crowns of 1977 and 1981 are both 25 pence coins, not five pound coins. Both are extremely common, and not worth much more than face value. All of these are fairly common pieces, and probably not worth much over face value, as above. Check for the letters (AA), (AB), (BB), etc. there are several possibilities, although I am not sure what the letters represent.

Umm, one penny new pence?? They stopped putting "new" on the coins in 1981. There were sterling silver proof one penny pieces issued in sets in 1996, 2000, and 2002.

It is 99.99% pure gold, and thus, worth it's weight in gold!! As Chris said, you could easily sell it for it's true value, which is 1 ounce of pure gold. (today's gold market set the value of 1 ounce of gold at just over £226.)

You can always list the dates here, and we can give you a quick estimate if anything might have any value. Chances are that they have little value to sell, but if you have a younger cousin/nephew/relative/friend that you could pass them on to, perhaps you could spark some interest in that youngster, and they may become life-long collectors.

Page 6 introduction to fractional farthings. paragraph ends " For a range of farthings that is second to none" should there be something else there?? just doesn't look right. maybe the last line of the paragraph got removed??

Chris, I doubt anyone (other than me!) would even notice this error, but on pg 85, under the decimal coinage section, for the pennies, you have 1984 listed as FROM SETS ONLY, which is not correct. It was a regular circulation piece, with a mintage of 154,759,625 (from the 1999 CCGB!). The penny, 20p and £1 were the only circulation pieces minted that year. The rest of the denominations are indeed from sets only.
