Does anyone actually know how much it costs to grade a coin with one of these unnecessary organisations. Seems to me all they achieve is an excuse for a price-hike!

I reckon this is just indicative of this apparent obsession the Americans seem to have with these grading companies. Not necessary in my view!

Well done for finding this Stu - this is so detrimental as these menaces are cropping up time and time again. Unfortunately since they are being sold as replicas the company selling them is doing 'nothing' wrong - certainly in the blinkered eyes of eBay, but they will provide a steady source for the conmen to sell.

Despite the inflated price, this seller is acting within the rules - he is using the pictures as the description of condition, he hasn't described the condition as 'F', 'VF' etc. and he's named his price to await any unwitting buyer do come along. All this emphasises is the ethos of " buyer beware"!

This is eBay remember, where many of the coins up for sale are at inflated prices, and of course the rating bit for buyers and sellers doesn't kick in until after the deal. So if any item, coin or anything else, is badly overpriced it probably won't sell, so feedback to eBay won't happen unless the item is reported for violating eBay rules. I also suppose anyone who pays an inflated price, being ignorant of the proper value at the time, will blindly give a good rating to a 'cowboy' seller. I have long been watching cartwheels (and other British coins) on eBay and unfortunately such a listing is not out of the ordinary - especially for coins for sale in the US.

I was commenting on the fact that one bidder was bidding 4 times in a row without any opposing bids in between - but I suppose since you mention it this does happen if a bidder wants to revise his maximum bid. Still a bit unusual though?

It's incredible that 11 bids have been made by 7 separate bidders - but one bidder appears to have bid against himself, bumping it up 4 times! Something fishy here!

I agree with terrysoldpennies, it's an attempt at induced corrosion to mask the obvious differences normally evident in the repro 1933 pennies - the verdigris looks 'applied' especially on the obverse and if you study the kings head the differences seen on the repros are still evident. I've reported it.

Impossible to be an 8 mate, that would make it a GVI penny.
