Hi Susan,

What's the significance of the 1950 West German 10 pfennig coin you have included in your photos?

For reference, here's one listed on e bay

Hi 1949 threepence, I thought that a picture of it next to the other coins would make it easier to see the size of the other coins.

thanks

Susan

I think you may have a Vasilopita coin. Its a Greek/Balkan tradition similar to putting a silver coin in a Christrmas pud.

Hi Bagarap,

Those coins all seem to have greek letters and greek words on them, mine doesn't, it's just the same as the other Edward V11 coins but ends with Rex and not F.D.Ind.Imp.

Which is another reason why it isn't official

Hi Rob,

I found this example while searching, it also ends with REX.

In fact, all the Edward V11 shillings and half crowns seem to end with REX.

Yes they do, but not the gold (or bronze). There are a multitude of unofficial coins of this period of the type bagerap posted, with a variety of legends. Most are souvenirs or playthings, some are gilt but most are brass, and mostly of European origin. I am inclined to agree that it is unlikely to be solid gold. It could perhaps be tested at a jewellers , though if base metal it could end up permanently marked.

Not all vasilopita have Greek lettering. Very few in fact. The British Sov. was and still is a popular motif for these coins and they were usually produced with an impossible date such as 1907 on a bust of George V.

Hello bhx7,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I am sorry but I dont understand what you mean by "the moment images"

Susan

It was done on my phone. It should have stated that I could see your images. No idea how it even came out that way.
