  1. Yes, according to Wiki "St Philip's became the cathedral of the newly formed Diocese of Birmingham in 1905"
  2. Not feeling in any way negative at the moment, but I invite all to post their frustrations here. eBay related stuff is taken as read, so apart from that! My top 3 would be: Rubbish scans/pics by sellers and auctioneers Grading for type which for me means grading by rarity, in other words the rarer the coin the more lax the grading Ignorance from numismatic professionals, including dealers and BNTA members I feel better now having posted that!!!

    Room 101

Probably consigned this to Room 101 before, but sellers who describe a coin along the lines of "small dig in the middle of the Queen's cheek does not detract" Grrr On the one hand, it's a bit much to tell the beholder what they should ignore, while on the other hand, once it's mentioned, I can't see anything else! At least it gets mentioned at the outset, reduces returns
  4. A glitch has meant I haven't been able to post in this thread for a while, but it seems to be working again! I'm interested in all Conder tokens, at the moment I am trying to complete the Kempson Birmingham Buildings series, and collect a decent example for every Cinque Port and limb thereof. Anything interesting though, in a decent grade and at a fair price, I tend to grab it! Here's another Kempson, I'll post some of my more interesting ones now that I can use this thread again

Pennies & Halfpennies Listed on Ebay

I can only see 1 coin listed (1881 penny)

    1703 VIGO Sixpence

Just had this sixpence graded, it achieved a grade of CGS 82 (Choice uncirculated), by far the highest graded early milled coin in my collection
  7. A bit of a shameless plug, but ... Unusually, I have listed a bunch of coins on eBay auction, to finish this coming Sunday evening. The highlights include this F39 1862 Penny, slabbed and graded CGS 78 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202343591239?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Also included are an EF Low Tide 1902 Penny, and an 1854 halfpenny graded UNC ('see other items') - some possible bargains to be had. Good luck to anyone who decides to bid
  8. I would have thought that might bring about an increase in nostalgia, not an increasing lack of it!

    1758 Shilling

And there were only 2,000 Northumberlands I believe, which wouldn't make much of a dent in the demand for shillings and most probably didn't circulate ...

    new to coins

I remember you saying so after the grading results came through (a few years ago now!) It seems to me that it is very hard to find them fairly nicely struck on the centre of the rev, most seem to have that slightly mushy look

    Pennies High grade.

Can I take this please Pete?
  15. The edge inscription reads " PUBLISHED BY R. LODER 1796 . X . ", as confirmed on the main reference material (Dalton & Hamer) Good question, I must try and learn how to photograph edges!
  16. Newbie, Suffolk Woodbridge Penny Conder token, 1796
