phill5555 Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Hi peeps, I was recommended to this site from a friend on another site and was wondering if I could get a grading and valuation on this coin, I can only upload 1 pic because of the size so I have uploaded the rarer side of the coin. this is info I have gleaned from the web so far.King Edward III Quarter Noble.Pellet in centre.Weight 2 grams.Measures 20mm across.Circa 1363 to 1369.Transitional Treaty Period.Pics are high definition scans of item.EDWARD DEI GRA REX ANGL/Edward by the Grace of God King of England.EXALTABITUR IN GLORIA/He shall be exalted in glory.Any info gratefully received thank you Quote
Rob Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Spink give £275 fine and £700 in VF (which doesn't come into it). It doesn't make fine in my opinion, so work down from the first figure to say £200 tops. Based on prices, this is one of the commonest varieties of 1/4 noble. It would be a rarer type if the pellet in the centre was replaced with an E. Quote
Coinery Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 It looks like it's spent some time in water, sea or river, as it's rather smoothed? Also, without seeing the other side, there looks to be a plugged edge-hole at 9 O'clock?Nice bit of history, but not a collector's piece if there are better examples around for a few extra quid. Thanks for bringing it on here, though! Talking of Edwards, I was staggered to find a beautiful tomb in Gloucester Cathedral last week, which belongs to Edward II. I instantly wanted to collect Edward II coins, just to build on the sense of history I felt, standing before this king's burial spot! Amazing! 1 Quote
