arthurcrown Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Had nothing on today so took a trip to the University of Manchester Museum. Among other things there's a full exhibition room dedicated to world currency throughout the ages, 100's of pieces dating from 2500 B.C - Present. Coins, tokens, medals, ingots, plates, dies. My personal favourites were the Charles I siege issues, a Cromwell pattern crown and some rather nice 5 guinea pieces. Also exhibited are some locally unearthed Roman finds....I've been pricing up metal detectors already !!Here's a link to the website if you're interested. Well worth a visit, and best of all it's FREE http://www.museum.manchester.ac.uk/collection/money/ 1 Quote
copper123 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Yes the Manchester museum coin collection is quite underrated - its well worth a look , I think there are quite a few items from the BM there on loan as well . Quote
Michael-Roo Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I was at the John Rylands Library recently to see the St. John fragment. Beautiful building. I'll certainly make a point of going to see the coin collection next time I'm over that way. Thanks for suggesting it. Quote
