HistoricCoinage Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) It looks to be plated judging by the copper poking through on the obverse. Edited May 5, 2014 by HistoricCoinage Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 But if you really want more detailed analysis then I'd suggest this. Quote
copper123 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) the steel core is not a possability then? Edited May 5, 2014 by copper123 Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 the steel core is not a possability then?I suppose it could be, but would it just have a few copper flecks on? It's electroplated using aRMour so I doubt this is possible.More likely is that the coin has been dipped into a solution of sodium zincate, in contact with zinc, which would make it appear silver like this. copper123 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 coins detail would not be as good if the copper plate is striped off , so i am inclined to go with you Quote
Nordle11 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 the steel core is not a possability then?I was under the understanding that pennies are steel cored with a copper plate? Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I was under the understanding that pennies are steel cored with a copper plate?Precisely. But if this were just the steel core I'd doubt there would be any trace of copper on it as there is on this one. Quote
