Asumel Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 HeyI found this on the street today, its rather battered but its about 2* as thick as a normal 50p and i'm 90% sure its not silver and i cant find anything on any piedfort 50p's from 1985, any ideas? Fake? Quote
Asumel Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 I also have a 10p which is the same, but from 1976 ? Quote
Sword Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I assume you have checked that it is not two coins joined together (i.e. no joining line at the edge)? There is no reason why a fake should have a thick flan. Quote
Asumel Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) nope its one single coin I did take a scan of the edge, hold on a sec Edited January 29, 2014 by Asumel Quote
hertfordian Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Is it just that this is an old size 50 p coin (1985) and this was 30mm in diameter and some 13.5gms in weight? As such, it was bigger and thicker than the current 50s and this could lead to someone thinking it's a piedfort? Quote

The old ones are 2.5mm, the new ones are 1.78mm. What is thickness of your coin? Quote
