william Posted February 20, 2004 Posted February 20, 2004 If the Churchill crown isn't the ugliest coin, then the 2004 50p could be. Runner's legs, come on! Quote
Emperor Oli Posted February 20, 2004 Posted February 20, 2004 If the Churchill crown isn't the ugliest coin, then the 2004 50p could be. Runner's legs, come on!There's an old thread somewherearound here where we had the debate on the new 2004 coins. I don't think anybody was enthusiastic about them at all! Quote
Laz Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 The Churchill Crown, you either hate it, or you hate it. Winston may have been a very good leader during those dark war years, and ironically darkness was probably the best kind of light to view him in! It has to be said, he was no oil painting! When he passed away in 1965 the Royal Mint produced a coin to honour him featuring his bust on the reverse. Many have said this was the ugliest coin ever produced. It looks like this:http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/crown1965.jpgWhat do you think?Just a bit of fun, if you say no, then please do provide details of your nominated ugliest coin.Chriswww.predecimal.com Does the U.S. Susan B.Anthony Dollar coin from the USA count or is this specifically British coinage? If it's open to all,I think Suzy has Winston beat! ~ Jim Quote

Sylvester Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 Yes I've seen those, they're quite awful too aren't they. I've seen worse...apart from the Golden Dollar and the Jeff nickel which i can't stand. (especially the latter)But there was one from the Netherlands somewhere that was really really bad! (in modern art style) the king on the front looked like he had leprosy. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted April 11, 2004 Author Posted April 11, 2004 And the 2003 GB coronation Jubilee Crown looks like it was done by a 6 year old. Quote

I showed the whole 2003 set to my Mum and she actually liked it - untrained eyes, I tell ya! it's only because they haven't seen all the good stuff out there... once someone's seen a gothic crown that's pretty much destroyed every other crown in existence's chance of being considered the best.
