poltheball Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Hi,I'm not entirely sure if this classes as a British coin or not, but I thought stick it up here anyway. I know very very little about coins, so bear with me if I say anything stupid. This coin was in a collection of my Grandpa's which was given to me when he died years ago, and I decided to have a look through and see if any were of any particular value. This one stood out as being one that could be a potential collector's item, so I emailed a few jewelry collectors to see what response I'd get. Nobody got back to me, so it may be that this coin is worth very little. I'm wondering if any of you might be able to value it accurately? Here's a couple of pictures:DSC05133 by poltheball, on FlickrDSC05134 by poltheball, on FlickrIf you happen to know how much this may be worth/ be interested in buying it, please could you get in touch with me:poltheball AT hotmail DOT comThanks! Brianess Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Anyone who has an Australia type collection or collection of Australia Florins should not be without this one. It is a commemorative coin issued in 1927 for the opening of Parliament House in Canberra. It is comprised of 0.9250 (sterling) Silver and could fetch anywhere from US$15 to US$50, depending on condition. It might be a good idea to check out eBay for other people selling this coin to get a current value or listing price unless you get an offer through this forum. It isn't worthless, and with the price of silver going up, it may increase in value.Enjoy, -Brian. Quote
poltheball Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Hi Brian,Thanks for the info. I'm in no rush to get rid of it, so I'll see what offers come my way, and maybe list it on eBay eventually.Paul Quote
TomGoodheart Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Looks in decent condition so don't be tempted to clean it as this will leave little fine scratches that detract from the appearance (and value) and store it somewhere it won't knock against other coins. Quote
scott Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 i like that design but its more common then most Aussie florins of the period. Quote
poltheball Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 Yeah I definitely won't be cleaning it.Is eBay the best place to flog something like this, or are there any specific sites I should be listing it on?Ta Quote
