Emperor Oli Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 What coins have you bought for well under, or well over catalogue price? My biggest bargain would have to be a 1758 6d, extremely fine(bought ages ago). I bought it off Ebay for a ridiculously low £15 and it's worth about £50. My largest premium? I can't think of one but probably something on Colin Cooke's site as he tends to inflate his prices. On second thoughts, my biggest profit was probably an inherited coin, like my William IV sovereign. Sylvester Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Colin Cooke isn't the only one that inflates his prices... i know a few other dealers like that. Quote

Half Penny Jon Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 Welcome jimmy! What coins do you collect? Quote
wybrit Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Best Buys:1869 penny in about uncirculated condition.1839 penny with just a slight bit of rub. Both at a tiny fraction of their true value, both in online auctions.Worst buy: 1889 shilling, graded BU but harshly brushed. Sent the coin back to the ebay seller, but it "never arrived." He got my money, I got the shaft. Total loss: $84.65. Quote

Sylvester Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 I dunno that takes some beating but i can beat it!Best buy;James II Half guinea 1688 in roughly F bought for £225, now worth about £275-£300Worst buy... (and this is why i don't use ebay anymore because i get far too carried away)$20 Liberty 1894, Graded GVF bought it for £325, sold it for £225. (No way was it worth £325 but i had alot of stiff competition to get that one... we were all bidding like crazy and i got carried away i only just beat another bidder), strangely i don't regret paying £100 over the value, i just regret selling it... So i now want another liberty $20 [a denver mint one] but i can't seem to find one anywhere! Quote
Master Jmd Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Surely worst losses, JMD? I take pride in my coins ...and that was meant to say worst but hey! Quote
