seuk Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Hmm...not sure what to call the small dots in the garter - spikes perhaps?Anyway, was taking a closer look at some scans and discovered there was a dot on one of the 1816 sixpence's which was not supposed to be there...: Quote

ski Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 my coin is more like the photo of the shilling, although the 2nd and 3rd dots from the right are less pronounced than the rest, interestingly my 1819 is almost identical, same reverse die???. Quote

Can you make a scan? You can't discount the possibility that a die was used after a period of 3 years. My 1675/3/2 halfpenny was obviously intended for use over that time span, and I was hoping that the 1817 and 1820 shillings with I/S in HONI were from the same die. From the images I think it is possible they could be, but the jury is out as the 1817s are badly struck with a characteristic low rim and if it was indeed the same die it would need to have been slightly recut as the bar in H is at a slightly different angle on the two, but as we know all too well, this happened frequently. I wouldn't know where to start with image superimposition, so I am unable to confirm using this method. Edited September 19, 2011 by Rob Quote
