Pennies - GVCIEUMVS TERTIVS 1695 & GEORGIUS IV 182

Have had these coins for 35 - 40 years and occasionally rediscovered them in many different draws over the years. Any value? If not will put them back in a draw and occasionally look at them for the next 30 - 40 years until they get thrown out by the next member of the family to dicover them. All thought s welcome.

Well one is William III and the other is George IV.

The George IV one is probably 1826.

Are they pennies or halfpennies or farthings?

The William III 1695 one will either be a halfpenny or a farthing (i need to know the size though)

The copper fans on here will know more than me as it's not my area.

The George IVth is 1827 . Full title didn't fit it the field. Both coins are same size - alittle smaller than a pre-decimal penny. Thanks for the info.

From that info then they are most definately half pennies, as the pre 1860 copper coinage was bigger than the bronze that followed it, so they are both halfpennies.

We'd need the condition of each to ascertain any prices though. Hopefully they will be uncleaned, unholed and problem free.

How much detail is still present? Or to put it another way do they look like they've seen a substantial amount of circulation?

As you put it, both have been in"substantial circulation" , very well worn. Both are legible though I wear glasse for reading and had to use a magnifying glass to be sure of what I was seeing due to browning and in the case of William blackening. Both are otherwise whole

The conditions you are describing is from fair to fine. They will not be worth much because they are very worn however, in the case of the 1695 one, it will be worth around £10 if it is in the condition you decribe.

look on the reverse, under the eagle, to see what the mintmark is. could be A, B, BB, D, K, MA, or W. In fine condition, the value will run around US$2.00-5.00, unless it is the MA, which is US$15.00. in lower grades than fine, most are common in bargain boxes, and can be easily found for under US$1.
