Master Jmd Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 i would just like to know; What is so 'Extremely Rare' about the 1953 2+A farthing? Quote
Emperor Oli Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Like all other numismatic rarities, it's down to mintage. All the others were minted more than 2+A. Quote

Half Penny Jon Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Like all other numismatic rarities, it's down to mintage. All the others were minted more than 2+A.so what is the mintage of it? They would not have recorded the mintage figures for the different types. They were just catagorised in the mintage of 1953. Quote
Master Jmd Posted June 18, 2004 Author Posted June 18, 2004 (edited) so it will probably have a mintage of far less then 10,000 to be classed as ext. rare? Edited June 18, 2004 by Master Jmd Quote
Coppers Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 The 1953 2+A may be rare in comparison to the other 1953 farthing varieties, but I'm not certain that this justifies use of the adverb "extremely". There always seems to be an example of two of this variety being offered for sale. I would think that one characteristic of an extremely rare coin is that it seldom if ever appears for sale. Chris...as a dealer perhaps you might have a different perspective on this. Any comments? Quote
william Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 Yes, that's probably part of the properties of being an extremely rare coin. But I think the mintage is more important than how often it comes up for sale. Quote
