Gary Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I have heard of this happening but I was under the impression that the blanks for the bronze coins were solid! While sorting through some coins I found this and it seems that the surface is peeling off. There is a crack, hard to see on the photos, heading up torwards the ship. It is not a die crack but a crack in the surface of the coin. Why does this happen? How were the bronze blanks made? Anyone?1965 Halfpenny Quote

It can happen to solid metal coins and not necessary only to plated coins. Quote
