Ben Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hi,I don't know much about old coins but the wife just found this while gardening.Very thin, hammered?Cross on one side and church on another. No face or profile. Quote
Ben Posted April 11, 2011 Author Posted April 11, 2011 the symbol of a church? is the same as this one Quote
Peckris Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 It has obvious similarities to a medieval hammered penny, but it's clearly not a monarch coin, probably not even English. At an educated guess it could be a Continental 'jeton' or possibly a Crusader piece. The cross is a 'short cross' type, with characteristic serifs you don't see on English pennies. Sorry, I can't be any more informative than that. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) I think it's a jetton in the chatel Tournois style like the one in this link: WAG linkMediaeval French Edited April 11, 2011 by TomGoodheart Quote
