scott Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 firstly, i can see what could be an H on the picture, and on another however to the eye there is no sign of the H, so i want to put that by the waysidehowever i was investigating my 1874 H's for die differances one is 7+H (with a narrow date) and another with wide spaced date another is 6+Gnow for the second part.this 1875 reverse seems to have the trident of the 6+g Quote

1949threepence Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 There's a half decent 1875H to be seen hereFreeman 85 8 + J R11 Given the extreme rarity of these pennies, it's actually well worth bidding on. I'm sorry to say that I can't make out any meaningful detail on Scott's picture. Quote

RLC35 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Here's mine. It's hard to take a pic thru a slab. There are hairlines on the slab, but the actual coin has extremely smooth fields. It is in a NGC slab (USA). Quote

So maybe it was put on a hook sometime about the first world war, and remained there until being re-discovered in the 50's/60's, temporarily re-entering circulation until you picked it up. Otherwise it might have been like your first one.Pure speculation, of course Quote

It doesn't look much, but it's less blotchy than the scan shows. As for cost - I picked it out of a dealer's 50p tray (years ago) and was silly enough to let him know it was the H variety. He let me have it for 50p anyway! Quote
